5.0 out of 5 stars Nitzinger Is Still Happenin' - A truly legendary artist
This listing is a European bootleg. But obviously a great piece of classic rock. 1972 actually, not (c)1996 as the label states.
My opinion is, that they should pay the artist royalties.
This is Texas Homegrown Tone , great but you sure don't have to import it.

Obscure but rewarding set of 70's hard rock, Texas style. Singer-songwriter-guitarist John Nitzinger struck out on his own after writing some songs for fellow Texan rockers Bloodrock and produced "Nitzinger" in 1972. Some new albums being released by Jim Rutledge of Bloodrock soon, featuring John Nitzingers guitar work. And one album is of Texas greats like Jim Rutledge and Rocky Athas doing fresh songs by John Nitzinger. John is one of the greatest songwriters of our time.
The album listed here is great it features Curly Benton (RIP)on Bass, and if not the first one of the first performing girl rock-n-roll drummers on a major label, Linda Waring ...
Some tracks have background by a then studio vocalist Janie Fricke.
It's a great album. As are all of Nitzingers' Classic and Current releases :o)
Nitzinger is touring, when not in studio
Enthusiests, publishers, and promoters that don't know him should check this guy out, he puts on a great show.

Music Distributers such as this one should be in touch also :o)
Thanks for the soapbox podium ..

5.0 out of 5 stars Saturday Night Rock at Its Best, June 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: John Nitzinger (Audio CD)
If anyone feels better than an American on Saturday night, it's a Texan on Saturday night... just listen to "Louisiana Cockfight" for proof. Almost all of Side 1 features some of the best early 70s power-trio ever recorded. Kick-ass drumming too (from a gurl).

Do yourself a gigantic favor and listen to Side 1 of this immediately followed by Dust's self-titled album. Then do your damnedess to build a time machine to go back to 1971.

I tell you people-this and all Nitzinger releases are rock steady solid from start to finish-this dude was a major talent that i felt was often overlooked-I am old fan from the vinyl dayz good music like this only improves with age-from Johns Bloodrock days till this release he steadily advanced the perfection of his art-if you wanna hear that southern style Texas epitamy of purest rock blues this is the avenue to travel-not one single bad or weak song from amongst these trax you will have to search elsewhere and other artist for that-this dude delivers and then only delivers more, one of my favorite albums from any era-i am more than delighted to see his work in digital format of cd-do yourself a favor-let the rent go to get this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Youth Revisited, December 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: John Nitzinger (Audio CD)
I owned this album (yes album) many years ago, but somehow lost it in the shuffle of college record swapping. After many casual searches in local record stores, I concluded that I would never find a CD version of this classic. Since receiving it for Xmas, I haven't stopped smiling! If you love driving rythms and timeless guitar licks, you'll love this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good southern rock, February 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: John Nitzinger (Audio CD)
Originally thought this was a live album but it's a redo of the original Black album issued in 1972.Quality of remix is good with no changes in format of the original. As good as a guitar player as John Nitzinger was it was surprising he didn't gain more popularity. Great sound for a three piece band.

Obscure but rewarding set of 70's hard rock, Texas style. Singer-songwriter-guitarist John Nitzinger struck out on his own after writing some songs for fellow Texan rockers Bloodrock and produced "Nitzinger" in 1972. Not quite as bluesy as Johnny Winter, Nitzinger could write some good poppy hooks within the hard rock context, which leads to speculation on what "could have been" (think .38 Special or Molly Hatchett). The most memorable song is "Witness To The Truth", which sounds like a "lost classic" upon first listen. The bad news about this particular import version is that it was obviously taken from a vinyl source, as a couple song intros are tellingly faded up in a rather sloppy fashion. "Four stars" for the contents.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roadhouse boogie, June 14, 2005
This review is from: John Nitzinger (Audio CD)
Hard driving rock with a little Texas style blues thrown in for good measure. Nitzinger was John Nitzinger's band before he joined PM or Alice Cooper and before he worked for Bloodrock. He writes and plays straight-up hard rock without the typical radio hooks (which is why you may have never heard of him or his band). If you have to choose between this CD and "One Foot in History", choose the latter, but if you can still find both, buy 'em both - stick 'em in the car's CD changer and drive. Oh, yeah, make sure your radar detector is working, because the music will make you want to put pedal to metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOT!!!, November 3, 1998
This review is from: John Nitzinger (Audio CD)
I first saw Nitzinger perform at a club in Dallas, Texas in 1971. To my knowledge they only put out 2 albums. The black album with Louisiana Cockfight is an incredible example of the raw, Southern Rock sound of the early '70s. This band will make you move! It is especially impressive when you realize that it is a Trio putting out all that sound. This album is a must for all hardcore Southern Rock fans!!!

It brought back a lot of wonderful memories! Love it as much today as when I was learning to play drums to this challenging masterpiece in 1971 as a 14 year old. This was a relief to find this rare gem from my past!
