Biography

“I’ve always been after the musical line,” says John Patitucci, referencing the title of his sixth Concord record.

The 46-year-old bassist follows that dictum through the course of a 13-piece, genre-crossing recital filled with flowing, lyrical lines that contain intriguing shapes, intoxicating beats, thrilling counterpoint, and heady improvising. Throughout, he ... Read more in Amazon's John Patitucci Store

Searching, Finding has what sounds like Peter Erskine. You'll never hear better drumming in your life. If Peter Erskine played on only this one song his whole life, this one tune justifies his fame... it is super super crisp, his time is so comfortable I could pull up a cook stove and bake some bread, and I'm not sure how he manages to pull off gorgeous comfortable fills and not get in the way. OK this track since I can't find album credits MIGHT be Weckl in an Erskine mood, with a bebop kit. But my guess is Erskine. Awesome track. And Baja Bajo has Colaiuta playing a bajon so free and solid its hard to believe. SO drummers who love these two guys won't be disappointed! And of course, great song writing.

best. A true classic!

Includes some very funky playing by Patitucci & some nice piano solos by Corea. Overall Patitucci's funkiest album.

Check out the beautiful "Growing", the really funky "Wind Sprint", &... ah well, the whole album is fantastic. Somewhat like an "Elektric Band"-album, but with much more accessible (better?) melodies & compositions.

(Oh, Frank Gambale is NOT included which is a big +...)

This is an excellent recording. First heard it in the 80's after coming home from europe; where I was exposed to some great jazz and fusion.
