5.0 out of 5 stars Skin and sheets, May 27, 2005
This review is from: John Peel Sessions (Audio CD)
Another great Peel disc. All of these tracks sound different than their album counterparts, making this completely worth getting.

This is early Clan of Xymox, with the tracks culled from the first couple of albums. The Peel sessions allowed artists to play 'live' but in a studio environment lending this and many other Peel discs excellent, clear sound with a live dynamic but not the rougher feel of a normal live album.

The strongest tracks are Stranger and Seventh Time, which is given a great makeover for the performance, much better than the studio track.

Overall, the sound quality and the variation on these early tunes (this is live in 1985) make this a gem in the Xymox catalogue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime, November 1, 2002

Most of these songs can be found on Medusa and on Xymox's self-titled release. However, don't delude yourself into thinking you already own these songs. They aren't shockingly different, but they are different enough to grab your interest if you've already played the album versions of these songs to death. Sublime. Essential for this completist!

As a long time early-Xymox fan, this was a jewel of a find. We've heard the tracks in other formats, but in this fresh take, recorded for the John Peel sessions, this music reminded me what it feels like to be young and serious and ambitious and filled with the passion of work you love. Xymox in its heyday.
