I own several other Craig Yoe published collections, and they're are all pretty great - most notably the Milt Gross collection, which is the best bang for your buck. However, I wasn't too thrilled with this one.

Oh, the presentation is nice. The cover is nice and sturdy, and it's cool to see that Bjork drawing on the back (and the full advertisement with Bjork within.) The pages inside are nice, too.

But, what's disappointing about is that the description is very misleading!

I've read the original Spumco COMIC BOOK comics before, and this book only collects a handful of these.

The ones collected are good, and fun to look at, however I could have lived without having the "previously unpublished story", and had another originally published story instead. I really was hoping to see the story about Jimmy babysitting. :(

I don't know much about the history of this project, what affected the decisions or whether some material might not have been available, but this just feels a rather lacking. There's not even an introduction. I'd of liked to have at least seen a paragraph by John K or Jim Smith. At least this rather makes up for that John K art book project having been dropped (something I hope still happens someday.)

However, I'd say, if you're a fan of John K and his work, it's still worth checking out. It is archival quality, so it may serve as a good replacement to the first couple issues of COMIC BOOK if you own the originals from the 90's. But, don't expect to own the whole kitten kaboodle in hardback form.

Hopefully we'll see additional volumes.

Well I also was duped thinking this would be a complete collection of the Spumco comics, but luckily I didn't get rid of my original issues. What we have hear is an overpriced half collection. You get one extra strip that's in complete black and white and then LESS THAN two issues of the original Spumco comic.

Only the first Marvel issue is nearly collected except it's missing the black and white comic that starts the issue. The complete George Liquor fishing issue that spans two of the Dark Horse issues are missing. Not even one of the original comics was completely collected. I would have returned this instantly if it weren't for the original strip.

Now I realize no where does this say that the collection is complete, but they can't just throw in all the covers for the original comics and then get all of the issues out of order. Anyone who does not know the original would assume it's complete because of that. They could have easily given the extra page count for the overpriced amount of this book and collected everything. It's otherwise sort of a rip off, they might as well have just released a new black and white issue with the new strip instead.

I'll change my review of this if Yoe is willing to release a Vol. 2, but otherwise, I can't recommend this to anyone, new and old fans alike. And if there is a Volume 2, it had better collect the remaining material. There's also a few unused strips that went up on John K's blog years ago that would be worth throwing in.

Great art. Large book. Pages are not glossy - but it is quite fun to look through. The stories are not as interesting or inspiring as the wonderful Spumco artwork

I LOVE John K. and I LOVE these comics, but unfortunately, this book was sold as a complete collection. In reality, it is roughly HALF of the Spumco comics ever published. Were the other comics too crass? Will we be lucky enough to see a volume 2? Only time will tell. For those that are unfamiliar with these stories, it is a wonderful collection of comics from one of animation's modern masters. Reproduction and paper quality are top notch.

While nicely presented, and a nice sturdy book, this is not the complete achival collection.

It only contains 2 of 4 issues, for the size and price all 4 could have been published.

Worst of all, i sold all the original comics before purchasing this, thinking it'd be an upgrade.

I'll cut to the point--this is a great book by Craig Yoe and John K! The artwork is great, the anti-politically correct humor is spot on while still having an element of silliness, and the stories are surprisingly clever and inventive. The printing quality is superb, and it only highlights the skilled artwork by greats like John Kricfalusi, Jim Smith, Vincent Waller, and Mike Fontanelli, Shane Glines and Richard Pursel! The only downside to this collection is that it leaves me wishing there was more meat in the package--while it's great that these comics were reprinted at all (along with some cool unpublished stuff), there are a couple other Spumco comics that were not included in the collection--here's hoping it'll be included in a future volume!

Other than that, there's a lot of cool stuff in this book--if you're a John K fan or just a cartoon fan, it gets two thumbs up from me! Highly recommended!

I'm not necessarily a fan of Ren and Stimpy. I do fondly remember the George Liquor flash movies on Icebox over a decade ago. The art on display here is deceptively simple but truly fantastic. This level of cartooning exaggeration is not easy to pull off - and few even try. The stories are absolutely lecherous, displaying a level of inappropriateness seldom seen in popular culture, and for that they feel more honest than most.
