5.0 out of 5 stars A very easy way to hit a golf ball
I've played for over 15 years and read at least 15 golf books. I understand kinesiology and I thought I understood the golf swing until I read this book. Redman, along with one of my alltime favorite golfers, Paul Azinger, simply explains a much better way to hit a golf ball. His method produces a much better chance for a square club face at impact and also produces...

3.0 out of 5 stars perspective
This is a highly personal instruction from a well known teacher. I liked the book very much and found it to be an effortless read. His teachings however are away from mainstream. The "modern swing" teaching currently promotes a very limited and passive hip turn. I am sure his swing method is a very effective for a segment of the golfing population but I...

5.0 out of 5 stars A very easy way to hit a golf ball, August 29, 2000

This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
I've played for over 15 years and read at least 15 golf books. I understand kinesiology and I thought I understood the golf swing until I read this book. Redman, along with one of my alltime favorite golfers, Paul Azinger, simply explains a much better way to hit a golf ball. His method produces a much better chance for a square club face at impact and also produces plenty of club head speed. When I relaized how easy the swing really is, I was amazed. I had tried to coordinate swinging arms with turning hips and rolling forearms and that's just too difficult for most people to accomplish. I also purchased "The Azinger Way" video tape and it's a nice compliment to the book because you can see how repeatable Paul's swing is with all clubs. Buy this book, learn the system, enjoy it, and never read another quick fix tip again. I don't know why more teachers don't use this model; it's much easier to teach and easier to learn! By the way, Azinger's putting tips in the book and video are also excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You John Redman, September 27, 2001

This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
I happened to catch about 10 minutes of Mr. Redman on the Golf Channel. Every word he spoke rang true. After reading his book I rediscovered many of the swing feels I had accidentally discovered during my first three months playing but could never consistantly replicate. Three years and many lessons involving "modern" swing theory later, I have come home. This is the simplest and least physically demanding swing out there and Mr. Redman explains it in a way that any duffer can understand and quickly implement. I also appreciate the fact that he steered me towards Percy Boomer's book. The only drawback is that I can't find a golf pro locally who teaches this method. Right now I don't feel like I need a pro. This book is like having a teaching pro on my bookshelf. BUY THIS BOOK. It will take a few weeks to "unlearn" all the modern crap you've learned, but you'll end up with a more consistant, powerful, and easily repeatable swing. I'd give it six stars if they'd let me.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lost Art of the Golf Swing, April 22, 1998
By
This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
John Redman teaches the golf swing in its purest form. His method has been popularized by golf greats Bobby Jones, Percy Boomer and Tommy Armour. His swing is sometimes called the "older" or "drag back" method because it concentrates on the passive use of the hands and arms. According to Redman the power of the golf swing takes place with the lower body, mainly a natural single axis swing around the spine with all of the power being generated by a level hip and shoulder turn. (Remember Percy Boomer's famous axiom about "turning in a barrel?") In contradistinction to this method most modern tour players and teachers teach a two axis turn. This is often characterized by the Jimmy Ballard lateral move. Unfortunately, this is much harder to perfect and physically coordinate than Redmans method. Subsequently, according to Redman many amateurs come outside the line and "over the top." Slice... slice... slice! Redmans prize student is the famous golf pro and major tournament winner Paul Azinger. Many illustrations of Paul's swing are included in the book. If you are looking for an easier more relaxed way to create club head speed and a golf swing that you can use for a lifetime, then you should order this book before your next round.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, THE answer!, July 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
As a once a month hacker, I have struggled with golf for years never really knowing what I should be doing. I finally found the answer. This is THE one. It makes so much sense you wonder how all of these other instructors make golf so complicated. Very systematic, organized, easy to understand flow, with lots of pictures. Follow each simple step and you will have a comfortable, natural, easy swing that really connects. I cannot believe the improvement in my game. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super golf how-to book, November 24, 1999

This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
This little book sure did change my golf life. I was a miserable hacker until I decided to pick one golf system and stick with it. John Redman's system seemed logical and it worked for me. There's no magical formula and it does take time and practice, the Redman system works...for me, anyway.

This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
I started playing golf 2 years ago and have spent a lot of money trying to learn from local pros and on other books. I bought John Redman's book and a couple of months later I spent a rainy Saturday reading this book and practicing in my den. You wouldn't believe how it change my swing. It is SIMPLE and PURE! Went to the range on the following Sunday and practiced John's techniques. I hit the ball straighter and longer than I ever have. Buy it and read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity, November 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
Great book! Very simple and easy to understand. Redman teaches a relatively strong grip which will help you SQUARE the club face effortlessly and stop slicing. He will also teach you to become tension-free and SWING the club instead of hitting at the ball. This will help you avoid coming over the top so your previous slilce does not turn into a pull. I play way to little to be really consistent but on good days - and using 'the Redman swing' - I hit the ball squarely, cleanly and with a fairly low, penetrating trajectory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best golf instruction I've EVER read. Amazingly simple., July 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
The only way this unique book could NOT improve your game is if you absolutely insist on convention and complication. Although not as marquee a teaching name as Ledbetter, Harmon, or Flick, Redman has played with and been taught by Tommy Armour, Sam Snead, and Julius Boros, among others. If a new golfer asked me for advice, I would advise him or her to get this book, read it thoroughly, and toss aside all other instruction. The method Redman teaches is that effective

This review is from: John Redman's Essentials of the Golf Swing (Paperback)
I have read many books and taken many lessons, but this is the first book on the golf swing that finally has made sense. Although taking a personal lesson would be best, this book explains in plain English what the golf swing is about. Study it and it should help your golf game.
