The biography is comprehensive and easy to read. Sargent's life and thinking are easily seen as affecting his style and technique.
I recommend the biography highly to art lovers and students of the era.

I have almost all the books containing most of Sargent's works. Now, this book fills in a lot of the blanks --about Sargent, his mindset, and his talents. This is a marvelous book that artists and non-artists alike will enjoy.

John Sargent is written in the style of the period which makes it a bit wordy. Some of Sargent's letters are reprinted in the French that they were written. However, it really does give you a sense of the man and the era that he worked. It is a must read for any Sargent fan.

Contains letters of Sargent's. Told great behind scene stories of many important commissioned portraits. I have been looking for info regarding to his painting technique. It is in the lines, but have to read carefully to find them.

This is a classic on John Sargent. It is great to have it back in print. If you are a fan of Sargent, it is well worth the price. As with all reprints, the plates are still in B/W.
