Hi, there.
This is showing up on my Amazon book pages and on the home pages of people who have bought my book -- hope you don't mind the intrusion. I just wanted to let y'all know that you want to know more about me, you are invited to swing by my personal site, Scalzi.com, and to my writing site, updated more or less daily, called Whatever. -- just click that to go through (if for some reason the link doesn't work, the URL is: http://whatever.scalzi.com/).
What will you find there? As the title implies, you'll find me writing about whatever thoughts are rolling around in my head at this particular moment in time. Topics I write about frequently include writing (naturally enough!), politics, home life, tech geekery, parenting, science, religion, and so on. I also post lots of pictures and generally putter around like an idjit. It's fun, or what passes for fun when one is staring at a screen full of phosphors.
Now, a caveat: the Whatever is a personal site, and I write there without worrying whether or not what I'm writing might potentially aggravate, alienate or just plain confuse people who are simply wandering by. So while you might go there and find me to be an interesting and fabulous person, you might also go there and find me to be a big fat jerk. It all depends.
This is the drawback of getting to know too much about the people whose books you are reading: at the end of the day, they're people too, with just as many good points and bad points as anyone else. Personally speaking, I don't mind that much; some of my favorite writers are often also people whose politics or points of view on life, the universe and everything are ones I don't particularly share. I just like their writing, period, end of story. It's something to keep in mind.
Caveat aside, I do love getting new visitors, so I hope you'll consider this an open invitation to come on by and learn a little more about me. I look forward to meeting you! Also, feel free also to drop me a note through e-mail, at: "john@scalzi.com". I try to answer all the e-mail I get, although sometimes I'm better at this than others. I definitely read every (non-spam) piece of mail I get, however. So send away!
John Scalzi writes books, which, considering where you're reading this, makes perfect sense. He's best known for writing science fiction, for which he won the John W. Campbell Award (2006) and has been nominated for the Hugo Award for best novel (2006, 2008, 2009). He also writes non-fiction, on subjects ranging from personal finance to astronomy to film, and is the Creative Consultant for the Stargate: Universe television series. He enjoys pie, as should all right thinking people.
