I purchased a handsome pair of John Varvatos Dearborn boots in late December 2013. I had been told of the high quality nature of Varvatos shoes and their excellent craftsmanship. Because of this, I ended up purchasing a pair at Gravity Pope in Toronto, Canada.

After this purchase, I had the shoes weather sealed and wore them sparingly over winter (along with Snow boots). While the Varvatos were quite durable for one month, I began to notice the leather drying, and used vinegar & water to remove salt stains, and treated the boots with Mink oil. In February I treated the boots again, noticing that the leather was constantly dry--even after repeated applications of Mink oil. By March, the leather was cracking and the soles had become worn down. I treated the shoes, left them for two weeks and brought them to a well known cobbler in the city. The leather had continued to crack by this time, at which point the lining of the boots had become visible.

I was alarmed by the speed at which the leather cracked, but my cobbler was even more distressed, saying she had not seen leather break down so quickly, and that the speed of this degeneration suggested a manufacturing issue. She insisted that I contact the manufacturer and offer photographs of the shoes, as they looked to have several years of wear, instead of just three months.

When I wrote to John Varvatos, I was told by two customer service reps (Maricela and Adrian) that Varvatos shoes "should not be worn in rain or snow." WOW. Just thought you should all know that these expensive boots can't withstand even minor weather. Feel free to click the pics below to see what could happen to you if you buy Varvatos boots!

I bought a pair of black and brown Hipster Chukka boots. First bought the black pair at a Nordstrom's store. Later ordered same in brown through Amazon. Both are 10.5 however there is a half size difference between them. Black fits perfect and feels like a slipper. The brown is small and width is tight. When placed sole-to-sole the difference is measurably obvious. When ordering a brown shoe through Amazon be prepared to do a possible return.

My husband loves these boots. They are very comfortable. I saw another review about the boot being flat, and sure enough, the boots fit his feet perfectly since he has no arches. For him, they were true to size (13).

Very cool chukka boot design, leather is great quality. Size 8.5 is my usual size but felt too tight. Size 9 was ok although a bit too big for me, still it fits ok.

These are simply the best shoes I have ever owned. They are extremely comfortable and the stitching is a work of art. Yes, they may have a high price tag but some things in life are just worth it - these shoes are one of those items.

Had to take these to a cobbler when the sole pulled away from the upper after eight wears. He revealed they are very poor quality and have paper in the soles. Cobbler also said we were robbed when I told him how much I paid. Junk! Bought another pair at Nordstrom which are going back.
