5.0 out of 5 stars A Lot of Interesting Little Points Given Here
There are only a few reasons to get a copy of John Walkenbach's books: One, he knows what he is talking about. His books show an insight far beyond the traditional click here to do this approach. Two, he writes far better than any other Excel writer that I have ever seen. Three, he gives you his e-mail address. He invites comments or suggestions about the book and says...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointingly Little
Probably 25 to 30% blank space + filler and another 25% no better than info in help files, it's probably better to redirect your money into one of the many highly regarded books from this very successful author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lot of Interesting Little Points Given Here, July 6, 2005
This review is from: John Walkenbach's Favorite Excel Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
There are only a few reasons to get a copy of John Walkenbach's books: One, he knows what he is talking about. His books show an insight far beyond the traditional click here to do this approach. Two, he writes far better than any other Excel writer that I have ever seen. Three, he gives you his e-mail address. He invites comments or suggestions about the book and says that he unfortunately cannot answer specific questions. But on the couple of occassions where I've had questions, I asked and he answered. They were, I think, pretty good questions, it well may be that he can't take the time to answer the simple obvious questions where the answers are in his book.

As the title implies, this book consists of a couple of hundred quick little things that mostly fall into the "I could have done that if I'd only thought that this was what I wanted to do" type. This includes things like wrapping text in a cell.

Some of the other points, like why does Excell take a credit card number and make the last digit a zero, fall into the obvious once you see the explanation.

This is not for the absolute beginner, you need to have some experience with Excell before you realize that you need the information that is here. For the advanced beginner to intermediate or even advanced user, the tips and tricks here will save you time and effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power packed...loaded with useful items., September 12, 2006

My only regret is that I didn't get the book sooner. This is a must for any serious Excel user who needs to hone their general skills and improve their efficiency. Efficiency is the name of the game for Excel, because if you're not making use of it's more advanced tools and utlilities, then you are not making the most of the program.

The book is practical in it's examples and in it's explanations. It's a general use book. It's a great spring board to Walkenbach's other, more thoroughly detailed books on charts, formulas, and VBA programming.

Excel is an amazing program that will astound you at what it can do--if only you took the opportunity to discover it's amazing assembly of tools.

I would recomend this book to anyone who is just learning excel or would like to improve their existing skills. This is not for advanced user. Some intermediate users may find it too basic. I was introduced to his book in one of my computer classes at Cornell University. Since then, I have purchased three more of his excel books.

I consider myself a Excel pro - I use about 6 hours a day to to order and manage $200 million in materials every year form multiple locations in US and Canadia. I've learned a ton of tricks and short cuts. His book on formulas is also one of the best I've used.

This is a terrific book. Somehow Wallenbach hits on the issues that frustrate many Excel users. His response to these issues is clever and insightful. This book was immediately useful to me. The day after I bought it I saved hours of time on the job by using Wallenbach's suggestions. This was money well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best "Second Excel Books" to have on your shelf, November 29, 2008
By
This review is from: John Walkenbach's Favorite Excel Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
I'm a power Excel user myself. I just bought a second copy of this book for my shelf to replace the copy I just sent to college with my son as he starts engineering school.
Walkenbach has been my favorite source since I picked up his Power Programing for VBA for Excel 95 many years ago. "Favorite Excel Tips & Tricks" isn't for the very brand new Excel user, but if you know just a bit about how to navigate a spreadsheet and want to learn lots of cool tricks, this is a great book, and Walkenbach is certainly THE master to learn from.
It isn't the best reference for finding the solution to a specific problem, but if you browse through it in your spare time, you will be rewarded down the road with enhanced ability to slickly solve many future Excel tasks.

This is a good book for those who use excel already. The book has a lot of neat ideas to make some of your more repetative chores easier and many of the tricks will likely turn out to be the missing link to something you were just not quite sure how to do. I've saved lots of time already with the things I've learned.

Jus like the title reads. This is a good and easy book especially for those who know excel but want to be more efficient but less intimidating ways, than coding in vba, to find tricks & shortcuts. *** Another phenomenal book is "Learn Excel by Mr. Excel" by Bill Jelen.
