4.0 out of 5 stars Good reference for John Wayne, November 7, 2003
"Pop Culture Legends: John Wayne" was written by Don Nardo , for Chelsea House Publishers . The introduction of this book was written by Leeza Gibbons, from the popular Hollywood news show "Entertainment Tonight" and describes the current role in Pop culture and how it affects American politics and ideas. The first chapter describes how Wayne (formerly Marion Morrison) was discovered by Raoul Walsh while Wayne was working as a prop man. From chapter two on, the author writes about Wayne's life and how he became such an icon. This book is very informative of how most of John Wayne's work came to be, and his various marriages and divorces with different women. "Pop Culture Legends: John Wayne" is composed nicely, and has good photographs to accompany the text. I would recommend this book to anybody who is interested in Wayne's work, and even pop culture of his time. Having not read any other biographies on John Wayne , or been alive while he was popular , I cannot tell if this biography is complete , but its definitely a good read if you're a john Wayne fan . I give this book 5 out of 5 spurs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Look at a Great Star, August 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: John Wayne (Pop Culture Legends) (Library Binding)
This is a terrific and sometimes moving book about John Wayne, one of my favorite movie stars of all time. OK, maybe he wasn't the world's greatest actor, but he had a larger than life presence on the screen and was a hell of a father and good citizen off the screen. The author goes to great lengths to cover all these different aspects of the Duke's life and also tells a lot of backstage stories that are fascinating. I agree with the author that his best performance was in The Searchers. Everybody should read this book.
