The information provided above concerning the types of programs included in this collection has a couple of errors. This does not collect two previously released John Wayne sets; rather, it expands the 20 film set with different versions of some titles.

3.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of movies, just not the famous ones.
Bought this for my dad who is a HUGE John Wayne fan (actually has a poster of him in his den) and he loved the fact of having so many movies to watch. Do note though that he told me he had only heard of one in the entire collection. This meant to him he had NEW movies to watch but to me meant they may be the not-so-good ones. This review is from: John Wayne - Ultimate Collection 25 Movies (DVD)
The information provided above concerning the types of programs included in this collection has a couple of errors. This does not collect two previously released John Wayne sets; rather, it expands the 20 film set with different versions of some titles.

There are not three complete serials in the set. SHADOW OF THE EAGLE does contain all 12 chapters; however, THE HURRICANE EXPRESS is in the edited, feature length form (80 mins.) even though the opening credits list "12 Chapters." THE THREE MUSKETEERS is also in edited form under the re-release title DESERT COMMAND (71 mins.). For those that are curious, MCLINTOCK is taken from a pan & scan source.

What's also missing in the above information is that Disc 3 contains 80 minutes of trailers (32 in all). It should also be pointed out that Mill Creek has packaged the DVDs in little envelopes that sit inside the plastic case. This might be easier for some people to flip to the disc they want, and I'm sure it brings the cost down for materials.

For the price this is still a good collection to get, but anyone looking for the complete serials would have been disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Duke's pre-Stagecoach career (re-issued), May 30, 2009
This review is from: John Wayne - Ultimate Collection 25 Movies (DVD)
MILL CREEK ENTERTAINMENT's JOHN WAYNE-ULTIMATE COLLECTION 25 MOVIES is a re-issue of their ULTIMATE JOHN WAYNE COLLECTION. Only the cover art has changed.

It combines their JOHN WAYNE, THE EARLY YEARS and JOHN WAYNE 20 MOVIE PACK into one convenient box set. There's 20 films here as well as three complete 12 episode serials. The 18 programmers and one of the features are westerns; the serials aren't. In all these, Duke portrays a pilot. An additional bonus TV documentary, "The American West Of John Ford," is hosted by Wayne (and others).

This excellent package is a must-have for all fans of Duke.

ROY ROGERS 20 Movie Pack is another excellent DVD set from MILL CREEK.

After checking out these 25 films in Videohound, I found that there are some gems here. Most are watchable and entertaining, but to make it easier for the potential viewer to understand, these are definitely watchable: Blue Steel, Riders of Destiny, Sagebrush Trail, Winds of the Wasteland, West of the Divide, Angel and the Badman, and McLintock. Adding the cost of shipping and handling for these alone (if you can find them), is $21. This is a keeper.

At least 95% of the movies on the disc are from the early 30's so judge for yourself from there. He was happy with it and that was all that mattered to me.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. I knew exactly what I was getting. The movies are all listed for us to read before purchasing. At 5 bucks, I'm suprised that anyone would complain! It's the Duke for goodness sakes! I'd give 5 bucks for a collection of commercials that he stared in!

These are some of John Wayne's older movies and a must have for anyone who collects John Wayne movies. I have watched the entire collection and they play as good as watching a TV movie.

I bought this for my uncle who loves older westerns. I hit the jackpot!!! He kept telling his friens how good of a nephew I was... that I have probably spent a "small fortune" on this collection... This is definitely a collection that is worth of having if you love John Wayne.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its John Wayne!, July 20, 2010

I bought this a) because I love Westerns, b) because I love John Wayne, c) because I needed something to bring my order to $25 to get free Super Saver Shipping. For around 5 bucks, this really is a great collection of films, exhibiting a great deal of insight to the style of movies in the early 20th century. These movies are actually fun to watch too, not some hodgepodge collection of silent films which your professor will claim is cinematic gold when really its just labelled such because there wasn't much else to watch and people were still fascinated with the fact that you could make pictures move. But the great thing is that many of these are about an hour, so they don't take up too much time, and you'll still have a blast, seeing John Wayne beat up a bunch of baddies. This man's career is really incredible. The only reason this product gets four stars is because the discs are all thrown in stupid paper cases like the ones that come with installation discs for a router or something. Its really inconvenient, not to mention an insult to the films. Granted it was $5.

John Wayne is always great, whether when he was a blockbuster actor or the old movies of the 30s. You can't go wrong with the Duke.
