This review is from: John Wayne's West In Music and Poster Art (10-CD + DVD) (Audio CD)
When I was first told about this set of CD's and Poster Art coming out in such an enormous set I was very reluctant to think that there was any way it could out-do the already existing publications like "A Western Celebration" by Wilma Russell and other publications about Duke's film career. My first instincts were right. The 10 CD's (316 tracks) are nothing but copies of already existing soundtracks. The LP sized book contains movie poster art from the US and different countries but also contains copyrighted photos and many famous quotes of John Wayne that are already published in other books. The DVD that was included supposedly contains original movie trailers from many of Duke's movies but after trying it on 4 different computers I couldn't get it to play. It says the DVD is Region 0 or what we call Region Free but it just wouldn't play.IMO this set is NOT worth the price they have put on it. They did put a fine print statement that the music was reproduced with permission but it doesn't say who gave that permission. The people and companies that matter are NOT shown as licensing this set. To top it all off, their movie filmography is incorrect. They are missing several of his movies. (1946) Desert Command, (1944) The Fighting Seabees, (1933) Central Airport and College Coach, (1932) Hurricane Express and 11 other movies that Duke did before his first starring role in "The Big Trail". So the set is not only inadequate but it is also flawed. My suggestion, take it off Amazon and don't waste your money for this set. The soundtracks you can find much easier on an individual basis. This is a big thumbs down!

This may be a little expensive (currently a purchase price of $290), but is a great tribute to John Wayne who remains one of the most popular actors of all time and an American legend.I am a 55 year old man who is a huge John Wayne fan. I grew up with John Wayne, James Stewart and my father being my role models. Everyone has their flaws or faults, but these men believed in traditional American values and had a chivalrous code to country, family, friends, God and personal conviction. In today's environment and troubled times, these are the values that are needed and should be stressed. This is a great 10 CD soundtrack collection of his western films. Some of the themes can be found in other CD collections. Others (e.g., McLintock, El Dorado, Hondo, Chisum, Fort Apache and The Three Godfathers) are not available. As a bonus, there is a DVD that has a collection of movie trailers and behind the scenes footage. This is great, but it would have been nice if Fort Apache and Red River were included. The hardcover edition book contains a brief biography of John Wayne with the majority of the book providing numerous movie posters, lobby cards and stills. The movies posters are from the USA and other countries which is a nice addition to the 10 CD/1 DVD set. Hopefully, in the future there will be a similar collection of John Wayne's non-western soundtracks and movie trailers such as his war movies (Flying Tigers, The Fighting Seabees, Back to Bataan, They Were Expendable, Sands of Iwo Jima, The Wings of Eagles, The Longest Day, The Green Berets, In Harms Way) and the Quiet Man, The High and the Mighty, Blood Alley, The Sea Chase, The Legend of he Lost, Donovan's Reef, Hatari, Wake of the Red Witch, Reap the Wild Wind, The HellFighters, McQ, Brannigan, etc. Overall, this is a nice addition for a John Wayne fan or collector.
