Ethereally Beautiful,

I've admired J.W. Waterhouse's ethereally beautiful paintings for a number of years. This calendar is the latest in a line of lovely productions. I'm not an artist or an art historian, but I like Waterhouse's paintings because they typically feature beautiful scenery and people and suggest high emotional involvement. The calendar's compilers have done a good job of finding different paintings from year to year, so that one is not faced with the same depiction very often.

I received the John William Waterhouse 2008 calendar for Christmas and can't wait for New Year's Day to come, so I can put it up. Pomegranate, a major publisher of art products, has outdone themselves with their calendar devoted to the beloved Victorian artist who painted in the style of the Pre-Raphaelites. The prints of Waterhouse's paintings featured here are superbly bright and true in quality; I have seen other prints of THISBE, but none as fine as Pomegranate's. This 2008 edition of the calendar is special as it includes some of Waterhouse's most popular paintings (OPHELIA and THE LADY OF SHALOTT, which adorns the cover) as well as some of his least frequently reproduced paintings (THE ENCHANTED GARDEN, A SONG OF SPRINGTIME, and JULIET). When the year is up, I plan to have a couple of these rarer prints removed from the calendar, then matted and framed; they will be valuable additions to my Waterhouse print collection.
The title, year, and current location of each painting is printed at the bottom of each month-page. The John William Waterhouse calendar will enhance your wall just as a framed painting would. It is truly a work of art, and I look forward to receiving it each Christmas! |
