Carol tells it like it was.,
By
This review is from: John Wimber: The Way It Was (Paperback)
This book really took me back to my days at the Vineyard. I did not attend Anaheim Vineyard, but we did experience many of the things that Anaheim did. I think that this book really gives a good idea of how things functioned in those days. John Wimber is pictured as he was an incredibly gifted man, who made his share of mistakes. He was a man who loved the Lord more than anything. He obeyed God above all else.
John spoke many times at my church less than a year before he died. It was great to see him speak to us with such great enthusiasm even though he was in great pain. If I had not read this book I would not have realized that. He was the real deal. I feel honored to have gotten a chance to watch him doing the stuff.

Carol Tells It Just The Way It Was,
By
This review is from: John Wimber: The Way It Was (Paperback)
This book provides a clear reminder of so many of the things I learned to value in the Vineyard movement. John and Carol Wimber handled the Bible like a couple of giddy children. They obeyed the word of God, and then with great enthusiasm watched to see what God would do. Their simple faith in the word resulted in plenteous fruit for the kingdom of God. As this book reveals, John was simple, but he was not a simpleton. He counted the cost of discipleship, and he kept his focus on Jesus. Jesus was the example for John for every kind of ministry. Not only does this book tell it like it was, the book, written by John's beautiful wife, has a big heart. Only a heart as big as Carol's could understand a heart as big as John's. I wept, I laughed, and I praised God for such a wonderful life as that of John Wimber. He revealed Jesus to many of us around the world, and for that I am eternally grateful. If you want to know the character and integrity behind the Vineyard movement, this book is a must read.

I loved this book and I loved the man. I sat under his teaching and I loved it. He was such a humble man and he loved music and story telling. I am sorry is is gone.

Profound affect on my own religious convictions,

This book essentially was what reminded me of why I was religious in the past (and have come back to the church, in a more humble fashion). An incredible man, a remarkable book by his wife of 30+ years, and a great story of a life very well lived. If anyone understood what Christianity (and religion in general) is suppose to be about, it was this man.

I was so impressed by this book. I guess you could say it was the book that kind of shaped my summer of 2011. I was able to obtain a used copy through Amazon. It's a very honest, very emotional book. The story of a man who so wanted to follow God that he was led experientially to places way beyond where he was theologically. I think this is what impacted me most about the book. Carol, you did a wonderful job writing this book.

I just read the book this week. It took about 40 or so pages to tell the story of the family origins of the Wimber clan to give background. After that, a story unfolded that moved me beyond words. Hearing Carol tell the story brought me into the moments of their joy and also the trial and error that all followers of the Lord have to contend with. Reading the last pages took time. Hearing how a man of God passed from the earth slowly, hurt. My comfort came in thinking that maybe everyone has a shelf life. Like an hourglass, you only have so many hours on earth. This man spent his hours loving Jesus Christ and the people whom Jesus loved. I'd choose to live the ending of the book,if I could live the middle of the book as well. Many thanks for telling this story!
