Whether it be today, or back in the day of Concrete Blonde, if you're a fan of this poetic singer with the fabulous voice & demure personality this is for you. Whether driving rock or acoustic those eyes & stage presence exude strong feeling. You'll find some meanings behind her songs, as well as her personal thoughts. A complex person who shares her thoughts freely. Thanks for all the great tunes & reading Johnette.

The book only occasionally pops up on Amazon. I was lucky enough to pick it up

I received this yesterday in the mail after snatching it up in joy from here on Amazon. It's a collection of her thoughts and songs, and some stories behind the songs. If find her fascinating and love her music, then you will love this. If you do not, you should pick up something more commercial.

I read it all night. Some of the songs have meaning now. Thanks Johnette for sharing your heart. xx

I've been a fan of Concrete Blonde and Johnette Napalitano since their first CD came out. They are one of the more talented bands in the last several decades and Johnette is truly one of the most underrated singer songwriters. Her vocal skills are only matched by her amazing lyrics.

When I bought this book I wasn't sure what to expect and unsure if parting with $25 was a good idea. I was glad I made the purchased it and really enjoyed reading it. From a production standpoint it's very well done. It's not just text on blank pages, but is filled with graphic, artwork, and creative use of fonts. It is on the short side, about 80 pages. However, it's intended to be a glimpse into someone's life, not an autobiography. I was satisfied with the length and given the quality of the book, and the fact that it's autographed, feel that it was a good value.

Thanks Johnette, . . . looking forward to Volume II, if there is one.

In 1986, at the impressionable age of seventeen - my older brother gave me an album that would change my life.
The album was the self-titled, "Concrete Blonde." POW - it was what rock and roll was meant to be, complete with the absolute baddest female vocalist/bassist (Johnette Napolitano) who has a voice that cuts through your soul and lyrics to match. The artwork on the inside sleeve (which I promptly hung on my bedroom wall) had all the lyrics written/drawn by hand and sketches of a world and a sentiment that I could relate to. CB became my favorite band forever. "Rough Mix" resembles that album sleeve that hung on my wall as a teen.
It is what art should be. It evokes every emotion possible. It includes drawings and photos and prose and poetry. Aptly put on the inside cover, it is "lyrics and writings & dreams in scratchy black and white as remembered through my gray." Maybe you've met some of the characters in this book. You've probably cried some of the tears and had the same fears. I especially love the stories behind the songs which make an awesome song lyric even more poignant. Johnette's works stand the test of time. Can you tell I like this book? Thank you Johnette, for always staying true.

Length: 4:49 Mins
Unfortunately not a particularly entertaining video of 4.5 minutes however it sincerely endorses the product Johnette Napolitano "Rough Mix" (Signed Copy) (Concrete Blonde)(booklet) as a truly worthwhile insight into the artistry of a remarkable woman who has "earned her stripes" in Rock & Roll. In my opinion she is not just the greatest lead vocalist in R&R history, she is a brilliant bassist/guitarist, profound lyricist, a true artist in so many diverse fields (dancing, sketching, scriptwriting and commentary) and if anyone cares to look up her interviews on (say) YouTube she is extremely intelligent, articulate and forthright on virtually any subject matter you wish to raise. I listen to her work (vocals and bass/guitar with Concrete Blonde and now predominantly as a soloist) and try to calculate how many dimensions she provides on any one track. Whereas top-bill modern day artists occasionally provide (say) 3 dimensional work, Johnette Napolitano consistently delivers 5 to 10 dimensions as she takes the listener/viewer on a musical journey. She has to be the ultimate inspiration to any teenager hell bent on making a career in the "rough and tough" music/arts industry. Thanks for your attention to this review.

Really cool book. Can't make this stuff up. Johnette is the realist rock and roll chick ever. Only complant about the book is should have been longer.

I did not give this book 5 stars for 2 reasons. One there are a number of typos which is no reflection on the author but does indicate someone needs to check their copy.
Otherwise I found the book to be an easy read, a very interesting story which is artfully told. The story is a rough mix jumping to lyrics and then back to the narrative of a sometimes troubled but colorful life. Although there are not many pages the book is definitely a page turner, especially if you are a Napolitano fan.
Ah yes, the second reason for the lack of a 5 star rating ... the story ended nicely bit abruptly. I wanted more.
