Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

When Johnny Boo is busy with another friend, Squiggle tries to make a new friend of his own but instead gets captured by a butterfly-hunting boy. Continuing to offer the same bright colors and youthful fun of the first three Johnny Boo graphic novels, Kochalka’s story will be a hit with young readers. Kids will identify with a subplot about trying—and failing—to make it to a bathroom on time and will understand Squiggle’s hurt feelings when Johnny leaves him out of the fun. A great addition to children’s graphic-novel collections that is sure to bring plenty of laughs. Grades K-3. --Snow Wildsmith

"This is the MOST AMAZINGEST children's book I have ever read. It says on the back it is for all ages, AND it was completely MIND-BLOWING for my 3 and 6 year-old sons. It contains HILARIOUS language & concepts that I don't want my children FORGETTING!!

...100% literary merit."

A Kid's Review on December 10, 2010
Format: Hardcover
Johnny Boo and the Mean Little Boy is about Johnny Boo and Squiggle. Johnny Boo and Squiggle are ghosties. Squiggle had to make new friends. The mean little boy comes over and thinks the ghost is a butterfly. Johnny Boo finds Squiggle in a jar. My favorite part is when Johnny Boo lets Squiggle out of the jar. I like this book because it's funny and pleasurous. The funny part is when the mean little boy pees in his pants and he changes his pants. I would recommend this book to hilarious kids and funny kids. (from LitLad: children's book reviews)

I don't see the point. Enough mean people in the real world without having to read about another one who is mean simply because he feels like it and then some sort of potty humor involved about having to pee your pants as well...waste of the paper it is printed on. Would rather have my trees back..and the Lorax - now there is something I can get behind.

I wasn't paying attention when our child slipped this one in the stack of books to check out of the library. We made it through one reading. I'm not sure what the intent of the book was but it is definitely not appropriate for all ages. Multiple characters use offensive language and treat each other poorly. Whatever lesson or moral the author was going for is not worth exposing your children to all of the negative behavior depicted in this book. Do not purchase.

Not a very good story for small children. Maybe better for older children that are bullies or are being bullied. My daughter would not let her five and three year olds have the book.
