I Walk The Line

Biography

Beginning his career as an outlaw to the Nashville establishment, Johnny Cash has come to define country music over the last 40 years. At first, his unique mix of hillbilly music with gospel and blues made him a perfect fit at Sam Phillips' Sun records, where he recorded such classics as "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line." From there, Johnny signed with Columbia records and embarked on… Read more in Amazon's Johnny Cash Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A seminal Christmas morning recording!, December 23, 2003
By
This review is from: Johnny Cash Family Christmas (Audio CD)
I grew up with this album played every Christmas morning, along with others. As an adult, I still find the original music found here remarkable, especially with the between-song narrations of Cash of Christmas' in Dais, Arkansas, as part of a poor family during the Depression. What a special record this is. My musical tastes, as an adult, span many, many genres, and I own essential recordings in all of them, but few have stood the test of time, or move me more, than this Johnny Cash Family Christmas. I'm thrilled I have it on CD now so my little boy can grow up listening to it as I did. Hopefully, with Cash's passing, it will return to general distribution until it is finally appreciated for the Christmas masterpiece it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars That Christmasy Feeling, December 20, 2011
This review is from: Johnny Cash Family Christmas (Audio CD)
Like the other reviewer, my dad would put this album on our record player every Christmas morning. It didn't feel like Christmas until a fire was crackling in our Franklin stove and Johnny Cash's gravelly voice was belting out a joyful tune. This album is a treasure to me as it reminds me of Christmases past - and the instrumental piece always brings tears to my eyes. I love the reflections of these dear musicians - now long gone away to heaven. A nice mix of bluegrass, country, and sentimental holiday tunes. Many of the songs I have never heard recorded by anyone else - it has remained my favorite Christmas album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this the one with the blue cover & snowglobe?, December 24, 2003

This review is from: Johnny Cash Family Christmas (Audio CD)
I listened to the one with the blue cover and the snowglobe (against my will) for most of my formative years. Now oddly, I find myself singing..."Christmas time's a'coming....Christmas time's a'coming...." I know my dad has an old scratchy version I could port over to CD but I'd rather have new on CD. So is this what you are selling?
