hot and jazzy i love an albumn that can stand alone ~~ even without the film to back it up! ALL CUTS ON THIS ALBUMN ARE PERFECT! delightful listening ! my personal favorite is 'bee boom!"times three!try this~~ sergio!

The soundtrack to "Johnny Cool" is about as obscure as the film itself. The film is essentially a gangster revenge tale. It was shot in 1963 in Black & White. It starred forgotten "rat packer" and brilliant character actor Henry Silva as Johnny Cool Giordano. Billy May did the scoring and Sammy Davis Jr. sings. This is technically an excellent recording. It sounds very good and is equally very pleasurable listening. This album is a very good piece of early 1960s contemporary America. Track 11 "Bee Boom" and Track 12 "The Ballad of Johnny Cool" both sung by Sammy Davis Jr. are excellent. Actually "Bee Boom" is fantastic!

Had the original record, this CD is very well mastered. If you like high rat pack cheese with a horn section this is your disc. Everyone I have turned on to this recording digs it. Light up a cigarette line up a few martinis, kick off your loafers, put up your silk socked feet and groove!

I played my first copy of the Johnny Cool Soundtrack till it was worn out, now it's on Cd, a perfect masterpiece of sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone who's heard this classic score has flipped over it, I wish they would release the film on Dvd.

I WISH THIS FLICK WAS AVAILABLE ON DVD, I"M SURPRISED THAT THE SOUND TRACK IS AVAILABLE........EITHER CASE ITS GREAT......

I love the swinging big band arrangements by Billy May. For those Maynard Ferguson fans, there is some exceptional high note trumpet work by Bud Brisbois

...from the Cool Era of the early 60's. Billy May, one of the greatest arrangers ever, wrote and arranged the tunes that were used in the Johnny Cool movie - and they're perfect for the time, the place, the action. Some high note trumpet from the late great Bud Brisbois is a bonus as is Sammy Davis Jr's vocal appearance on the theme song. If you like this sort of music, this is a Must Buy!

I love big band music. Especially with a tight horn section. And it is hard to find big bands that have trumpet players talented enough to play the ultrasonic high notes. Probably the king of those notes was the late Maynard Ferguson, God rest his soul. He had players like himself that could pull it off flawlessly. So, too, this album has the rareified air of talent that can pull of those incredibly high trumpet notes with a full orchestra playing at the same time. Priceless. Every song on this album is the kind of music I can listen to over and over again. There are two songs with Sammy Davis, Jr. singing, and although I was not a fan of his prior to buying this album, his singing here is excellent, and I likely will start to shop for some of his music as well. Pick up this album if you love the band sounds of the 50's and 60's. You won't be sorry.
