5.0 out of 5 stars John Trudell Tells It Like It Is
I being very young and listening to John Trudell address the Senate when he was AIM-Chairman . Make no mistake, Trudell's message is as powerful now as it was then - and his presentation of reality cuts to the heart of First Nations social issues. This man is truly my hero and shows his incredible versitility and his eloquence as he shows the plight of American Indians...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Poet, Lousy Singing Voice
John Trudell is an inspirational poet who touches my heat with his words. That said, his songs are terrible. I could not believe how good the music was and how bad it sounded when he started talking. I recommend his books of poetry but not his CDs.

This man is truly my hero and shows his incredible versitility and his eloquence as he shows the plight of American Indians on this Album. Produced by Jackson Browne, backing vocals by Browne, Kris Kristoferson and Leslie Ann Warren make this album a *definite* must-own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply moving, November 17, 1999

I first heard "See The Woman" on AIROS (American Indian Radio on Satellite) and was moved to contact them to find out who was the artist. I found the entire album as touching as the first piece I'd heard.

I searched for a cd by Trudell after seeing a tape of the '98 NAMY Awards. See The Woman left me speechless and after Raptor I knew I was in love. This cd caused more emotion than I've felt in a long time. He is a great Poet!

4.0 out of 5 stars What you are missing if you don't listen to college radio #1, May 24, 2002
This review is from: Johnny Damas & Me (Audio CD)
An album I've enjoyed for years now. The lyrics, at times, approach hyperventilation, as in the title track. Rant & roll sez it perfectly. At times, platitudinous, unfortunately - but as fierce as Robinson Jeffers - a 'strong tongue' if there ever was one. Terrific backup musicians. Makes me want to pick up a 12-string electric. Wow!

5.0 out of 5 stars The TRUTH rocks.........., April 6, 2001

With each new release, John Trudell surpasses himself, which makes him so extraordinarily superior to a majority of recording artists. We all own dozens, if not hundreds of cd's. But how many do you actually play and listen to hundreds of times, day-after-day, year-after-year? That's what I do with this one. The songs (really poems) are extremely powerful and elevating. Rant and Roll is classic rock, putting even the best of the Byrd's early work to absolute shame. Raptor, and Across My Heart are extremely beautiful, sexual, and just plain lovely. Trudell is one of the few artists capable of writing from a feminine perspective and effectively convey a woman's plight and options with clarity. You will find See The Woman, and Shadow Over Sisterland to be unlike anything you have ever heard before. The album ends with a tremendous war-cry of a song called All There Is To It, designed to curdle the blood in Washington, D.C. Hope it does. Buy this album....I mean BUY THIS ALBUM!
