Dark, haunting and mysterious., April 20, 2000

Ry Cooder mixes what sounds like a little Blues with a little Jazz and a big helping of the Cajun sound into a very impressive "film noir" soundtrack. Ry weaves them all together into an appealing yet dark and surreal musical painting of hopelessness and despair. When I hear this soundtrack, I can't help but to vision a lonely soul walking down a dark alley at night in the pouring rain in a major city. But there are also a few spirited tracks that seem to showcase what sounds to be the wild "Louisiana Cajun nightclub" scene. You can't help but to want to move to the beat listening to these selections. As a big soundtrack fan, this is one of the best I've ever owned. I should rent the movie again.
