This is another in the Varese Sarabande series of 25 All-Time Greatest Hits series. Interestingly, this follows a previous Tillotson compilation ("Poetry in Motion - the best of Johnny Tillotson") done by Varese just a couple of years ago. This piece contains, as would be expected, 25 songs from the entire career of Tillotson making it a bit more complete than the "Best Of... " piece. Included is every top-100 charted A-side achieved by Tillotson with the single exception of "Then I'll Count Again." On the plus side is the inclusion of "Our World", Tillotson's last top-100 single on MGM, a song which to my knowledge has not previously appeared on CD, not even on Ace's collection of Tillotson's MGM hits.

The sound quality has been maintained or improved in some cases over the previous set as well. "Poetry In Motion" and "You Can Never Stop Me Loving You" have been remixed from the original session masters.

While a bit higher priced than the previous Varese compilation, with the improvements it's worth the cost. Here is an excellent overview of Tillotson's material, the best on the market to date.

Johnny Tillotson's soothing harmonies swooned audiences through much of the '60's, and the tracks on this compilation aptly demonstrate why. Of all this artist's releases, including the "Best Of ...," this one is easy the best and most comprehensive. A pleasant surprise are some unexpected standards, but the main draws are the chart-busters like "Send Me the Pillow ...," "Talking Back Tremling Lips," (which no other artist has been able to score like Tillotson's energetic and soulful rendition), the classic and timeless "Heartaches by the Number," & another near two dozen cuts. Not only is Tillotson's compilation a refreshing nostalgic blast, it's proof of the timelessness of songs performed by a true artist. Buy the disc! Promise, you won't regret it.

This collection of 25 all-time hits of Johnny Tillotson is worth the price of the cd many many times over. The cd rarely leaves my cd player. His songs and vocal presentation are not mere 'nostalgia' of 'oldies memories'. These are "classic" and living recordings that sound as great todayy as when Johnny first laid them down in the late fifties and early sixties. This cd makes it clear wh he is still performing and pleasing audiences today.
"True True Happiness" a track on this collection could have easily been used as the "title" of this collection. Listening to it will leave you feeling truly happy.
"Poetry In Motion", probably one of his best known songs is on here. As is "It Keeps Right On A'Hurtin'" and "Talk Back Trembling Lips". A little different from his style is "Cling To Me", but every bit still "Johnny Tillotson"!
I love this album and if you get a copy, I'm sure and certain that you will treasure it as well. Thanks Johnny Tillotson for all these really great songs and recordings. You are a great artist and performer, and this cd collection captures that in sound.

As a collector of 50s and 60s compilation CDs, I have to say that this is without a doubt one of my favorites. First and foremost, it's all ORIGINAL recordings unlike so many other artists whose recording are remakes of their originals. You can't listen to this CD without feeling nostalgic and remembering your teens. If you are an oldies lover, you should definitely add this one to your collection. I listen to it over and over again. I especially love the way he does "Why Do I Love You So" and "Without You".

to, johnny tillotson is one of the best in oldies but goodies. i love this cd very very much.he sure knows how to sing from the heart and real feelings. to me, there will never be another johnny tillotson. i think i might have to order another one pretty soon, because i just about have this cd worn out.i'l never get tired of this cd.i'm no teenager anymore, i'm 58 years old, but when i play his cd i feel like a teenage in love all over again. so as long as i have johnnys' songs near me, i'll never grow old.

Johnny Tillotson - 25 All-Time Greatest Hits provides us with just that: 25 of Johnny Tillotson's greatest hits ever. I can't believe how well this guy could sing; it's absolutely amazing and I enjoy listening to this CD whenever I can. Johnny endeared himself to his fans by singing with true passion; and they loved him for it. The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent; and that artwork is very tastefully done.

"Dreamy Eyes" is certain to sweep the ladies off their feet; Johnny sings this very gracefully with all the panache of a true balladeer. Johnny puts a lot of feeling into "Dreamy Eyes" and just one listen proves it. The musical arrangement works well for "Dreamy Eyes," too. "Why Do I Love You So" has an early rock and roll/ballad flavor to it that many teenagers loved to slow dance to back in the day; and "Earth Angel" was a big, big hit for Johnny Tillotson. "Earth Angel" charms me with its beauty and this timeless love song sounds flawless even all these years later. "Poetry In Motion" was yet another huge hit for this vocalist; Johnny delivers this with a lot of feeling and the backup singers support him very well without stealing the show away from Johnny. Great!

"Jimmy's Girl" is very sweet even if the lyrics aren't the happiest; but many young men could identify with this song--which, I think, was the reason it was such a big hit for Johnny. "It Keeps Right On A Hurtin'" is a lush country ballad that shows just how well Johnny Tillotson could handle a different type of ballad; and I really like the ultra-romantic "Send Me The Pillow You Dream On." "Send Me The Pillow You Dream On" is adorable--how sweet! Listen also for "You Can Never Stop Me Loving You;" this tune has a great feeling to it and that keyboard work makes the arrangement very easy on the ear.

"Judy, Judy Judy" is another great tune by Johnny Tillotson; and "Funny How Time Slips Away" has a fantastic arrangement that makes good use of the strings as Johnny croons this to perfection--and beyond! "She Understands Me" has that early rock and roll flavor that has just a touch of doo-wop for a good effect; and "Angel" has Johnny squarely front and center--right where he belongs!

"Heartaches By The Number" has a great melody that belies the seriousness of the lyrics; that musical arrangement couldn't have been written any better. "(Wait 'Til You See My) Gidget" gets the royal treatment from Johnny; and the CD ends strong with Johnny Tillotson performing "Cling To Me." "Cling To Me" is a most passionate ballad and it leaves me wanting more--a lot more!

Johnny Tillotson certainly gave us so much to enjoy; and this is wonderful for his fans. It's also a fine starter CD for people just discovering the artistry of Johnny Tillotson.

Through a roundabout series of events and links, I stumbled upon Johnny Tillotson's video of "Talk back trembling lips" and that led to this CD. I was pleasantly surprized to see that Johnny was the voice behind so many of the hits I loved in the 50s and 60s. This is a great collection of both his own hits and a few others that he covers. If you remember Paul Anka, Dion and the others, you will remember Johnny Tillotson once you hear a few of these cuts. This is a great CD and now one of my all time favorites. You'll be humming along with these.

It seems that Tillotson and I were listening to the same Grand Ole Oprey broadcast of "Talk Back Trembling Lips" in 1963. He also loved the song and recorded it himself. It rose in the pop charts (he's a "crossover" artist) and that's how I heard it again in 1964. I could not remember who the artist was and searched the country artists looking for it, but I could not find it. I had been searching for that song for 45 years. You-Tube the song for a video of it: it's classic 1964.

This CD is a must-have for anyone that is a true Johnny Tillotson fan. It has all of his greatest hits and is a wonderful tribute to his career and talent.

Purchased this CD some time ago and play it quite often. Have been a Johnny Tillotson fan and was so pleased to find this CD. Every song was great (and there were several I had never heard before). Would highly recommend this CD to anyone.

The CD arrived within a few days and is in great shape. It has all of Johnny Tillotson's hits and songs I had forgotten.
