THANKFULLY SONY DID NOT REISSUE THIS CLASSIC CD!,

Johnny Winter Johnny Winter And (DCC Compact Classics)Thanks to the gang at DCC Compact Classics we now have blues rocker Johnny Winter's 1970 Johnny Winter And album finally released on CD. This album sounds killer thanks to being digitally remastered from the original master mix tapes. Well all I can say is thank god Sony did not issue it. If Sony even considered it for release, we might be all dead before they would have gotten around to it (and it probably would not be in its original album form anyway!). There is distortion on some songs but no biggie. The distortion is on the original master mixes. Besides...Johnny & Rick Derringer sound great with a little extra `dirt' on they're guitars! Need a real Johnny blast from your `70s classic rock past? Turn up the volume and check out "Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo," "Prodigal Son" & Johnny's Hendrixized "Guess I'll Go Away". After those 3 tracks...You got the message. It's all balls to the walls. Now all we need is for DCC to reissue the remaining Johnny Winter CD's that are still unreleased in the U.S. How about John Dawson Winter III, White, Hot & Blue, Raisin' Cain & Johnny & Edgar Winters' Together album next ??? A+.

i had this lp when it first came out, nothing bluesy about this one, it is in-your-face rock 'n roll of the highest caliber. there are no duds on this disc, just tune after tune of some of johnny's best playing ever. i can't wait until JOHN DAWSON WINTER III is finally released also.

This is not a blues album, which is what Johnny Winter is known best for. It is one hell of a rock and roll album with some of the best songs , playing and singing your likely to hear. I was a raving Johnny Winter fan when I met him by chance at Dan Armstrong Guitars years ago. I told him my friend Mike Klapholz's mom was a famous sculptor and did a sculpture of him. 2 weeks later Johnny was playing Queens college and he invited us all backstage than went to Mikes house to view the sculpture. Johnny , his band and management were really gracious nice people (thegroupies with the see-through shirts didnt do any damage to my 13 year old libido either). A few months later, Johnny invited us out to Long Island for the debut of his new group. When we learned the new group was the McCoys, we were heartbroken, how could he play with these teenyboppers after his magnificent trio?. How wrong we were, the McCoys had grown up and were some of the most dynamic inventive players around (check out their album Human Ball, now released as The Psychedelic McCoys). Unfortunately, right before the show, the McCoys Drummer (Rick D/Zehrringers brother)and their keyboard player left because of some drug related problems (we were told) , too bad they were great players. Anyway that night Edgar Winter played drums and they tore the place apart. This album is a great album, rarely have you heard Johnny Winter play so inventively and the band, songs and interplay between Rick Derringer and him is just tremendous. Buy this CD , its out after years of just an import. You wont be dissapointed.

A killllller (if remastered),
This review is from: Johnny Winter and (Audio CD)
I bought this two years ago, and was never disappointed as far as the music goes; somewhere between rock and blues, and the best of both worlds. Wintes such is as we all know the ace player, Derringer is as good, and if you don't own 'Rock'n'Roll Hoochie Koo' from this band your collection is not complete. BUT: make sure you buy the remastered version, and listen to it before you do. The old version was produced - I believe - using an LP and a mike; unfortunately the pick-up system of the record player was 20 years old, so any guitar line by Derringer sounds like 10 people trying to play the same thing at one time! You can't stand this!

A True Collaboration,

Don't expect this to sound like the rest of Johnny Winter's blues releases. Be prepared to hear a variety of songs ranging from the psychedelic "Guess I'll Go Away" to the Traffic cover "No Time to Live." Rick Derringer's and Johnny Winter's guitar styles mesh together in the same way that Duane Allman and Dickey Betts complimented each other.

JOHNNY WINTER!!,

I was given the vinyl for this album in 1970 and IMMEDIATELY became a huge fan!! Johnny plays Texas blues loud, raw and in-yer-face...a kind of a love it or leave it musicianship that, being a guitar player, had me hooked from the first play. I spent hours and hours trying to duplicate his sound. An essential album for anyone who loves the blues and hard-core rock 'n' roll
