Leaving Berlin
A young writer fled Germany before the war. McCarthy witch-hunts spur him back as a spy in precarious circumstances. See more books by Joseph Kanon

Book Description

What happens when you mix a psychotic South African gun dealer, some sadomasochistic arms-dealing Russians, a bar bouncer who made his bones in Afghanistan, a Buddhist stripper, a man-killing woman detective, assorted highly skilled dark side shooters, and the sunniest down-home female assassin on the market?

Things get WYLDE.

Lyrical sex. Poetic violence. And poetry.

For adults only. Rated R for graphic sex, violence, language and mordant humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Johnny Wylde March 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am a big fan of Marcus Wynne's previous books and have read them all more than once.

When I read the preview for "Johnny Wylde", I was a little dissapointed. I didn't like what appeared to be the direction the author was taking. But, out of loyalty, I bought the book, not expecting much.

I was wrong. I think this is Wynne's best work. The setting is a palpable thing, and the characterization is fantastic. Wynne paints the picture of a world very different from his previous works.

The story moves at a good pace, and the action scenes are well played out and believable.

I really enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to the next part.

Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars What' up with this ending? October 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If there is going to be a sequel OK. But this one Marcus was good, very good untill the end. I have to admit I found it dificult to except Nina. Nothing seemed right about her. Butch like. You left us hanging with the ending. Too many unanswered questions and unresolved issues. You are one of my favorite writers and I have recomended you to friends. Thanks you sir for many hours of pulse pounding reading. I look forward to your next book. I've read all the others. I need my fix!!! bill

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great adventure from Marcus Wynne March 28, 2011
By M. H.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Marcus Wynne's new book Johnny Wylde is the beginning of (hopefully) a new series with a new cast of characters and ruffians. I was delighted to see the return of Nina from No Other Option though we see her in a much darker light than before. This book serves as a slight departure from some of his earlier novels; imagine a pulp fiction novel combined with the feel of a film noir but with the action of a Jason Bourne movie.

Marcus' skill is evident not just in his descriptions of gunplay and violence but with an introspectiveness that brings his characters to life and draws the reader in. From the stripper who quotes Buddha and Miyamoto Musashi with ease, to the lady cop with her Glock .45 and the sunny SoCal assassin who likes her sharp knives, you will be left wanting more. If you've read Marcus' previous works, you will enjoy Johnny Wylde. If this is your first time with Marcus, grab a cup of your favorite poison, get comfortable and hang on for the ride because you're not going to get any work done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Hit for Marcus Wynne March 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Having read Marcus' previous books was looking forward to this one and was pleasantly surprised by the change in direction. The characters feel like they could step out of the pages / screen and be sipping their beers and coffee beside you; Johnny Wylde devolops as a complex multi-faceted person with his unique demons and dreams. The introspection before and after action and indeed the action itself is grippingly real and can only be described by one who has "seen the elephant" themselves.

Looking forward to the sequel!

Johnny Wylde

After some years of quietness regarding the publishing of new books Marcus returned to the writing-stage with a vengeance. After switching to eBooks and the publishing of his novel `With a vengeance' things went fast and the next one to be coming out was `Johnny Wylde'.

The book `Johnny Wylde' is the story about the adventures of the main protagonist with the same name Johnny Wylde and his friends.

Like with all of Marcus books we as readers get a glimpse into the shadowy world of professional violence and special operators. This all spiced up with chaotic gunfights and exotic sex. Reading the book you aren't just getting a look at how things unfold but you will get the impression that you are dropped in the middle of it. This way the book is in some way not just a good read but also kind of an experience.

What I like about the book is its style of short chapters telling the story divided by interludes which explain bits about the world of gunslingers. The interlude not just gives some explanation it also puts the reader in the right frame of mind to experience what is going to come.

This book is a great story, good character build-up, a nice insight into a world of which most people don't know much about and great action-scenes.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who likes the special operators action genre, likes to read about gun and knife fights and enjoys a great story!

5.0 out of 5 stars A new Grand Master has arrived! September 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Just as Marcus Wynne proved himself as an Operator, he has earned his place among the elite of todays best writers. If you like Clancy and Flynn, Wynne will stun you.
No need to do research and consult the experts, Wynne's life is his source and he IS the expert. Annoying technical errors are for others to make. Marcus has lived the life, and he takes you to places you've never been and not likely to go. He not only weaves superbly intricate stories, but immerses you in the sounds, smells, feel, and situational awareness of the world he leads you to and the characters within. Details elegantly revealed that only one who has been there could know.
Read all of his books...they are each unique in of themselves, similar in the excellence of the journey. Another reviewer made an observation that I will second...if you need to be somewhere the next morning, sharp and ready to not read this author just before bedtime. You will find yourself greeting the dawn and making extra coffee. Rather, exercise brutal discipline and limit yourself to a chapter or two and savor the experience a bit longer. Pour a couple fingers of your favorite, settle in to your best chair near the fire, and hang on!
