From Stratford-on-Avon to Penshurst Place and Kenilworth Castle to Blarney Castle, each piece depicts different panoramic scenes of great architectural monuments and the landscapes that surround them. Intricate ornamental borders of flowers and leafy scrolls surround the pieces and bring the disparate array of scenes harmoniously together. This 1-cup covered sugar bowl measures 6 inches from handle to handle, 4 inches wide, and 4 inches high. This historical and traditional pattern, Old British Castles, intricately rendered by a Miss Fennel back in 1928. She, the daughter of a Master Engraver, created these original drawings from old book photographs and steel engravings. OBC is certainly one of the best known patterns from Johnson Brothers and has been in production since 1930. Each piece of china depicting a scene of a different castle has extended to 45 castles. Some of the most famous castles included in the OBC Pattern are - Cambridge, Dunstable, Exeter, Haddon Hall, Kent, Stratford, and Warwick. The Old British Castles pink sugar -- use it everyday or for your most formal settings. A delicate work of art this sugar bowl imparts sophistication of high tea to an everyday ritual. One of the nicest sugar bowls I've seen. My friends think this is a charming way to serve sugar at lunch, breakfast, or the dinner table. It is useful for small relishes or compotes and other uses that require a small pretty dish too. I think just about everyone will love it!

I have been collecting Johnson Brothers Old British Castles for years and have yet to break one dish! This stuff is not only beautiful and elegant, but suitable for everyday use! And we really use our set as it's the only one we have! I once only used it for special occasions but after I realized they never broke even with rough handling, I now use them every day! They clean up great in the dishwasher and none have faded. I have noticed when you buy these dishes separately, they may have a bit more or less color.

Just love this set in pink. Its just so victiorian but sturdy. This sugar bowl is great for a tea party.
