Product Description

Our Digital Temp Controller operates by overriding the internal thermostat in a refrigerator or freezer and gives the brewer greater control over the fermentation. The digital controller has a digital display with adjustable differential. It can be used to heat or cool a fermentation environment - when hooked up to a refrigerator, it turns the compressor on when the ambient temperature rises above your programmed temperature; when hooked up to a heater, it activates when the temperature drops too low. A sensor probe monitors the temperature inside while the readout displays it in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. This is the ideal choice for lager brewers who include a diacetyl rest in their fermentations or for ales like altbier or Kolsch that require fermentation temperatures in the low end of the ale range.

I have a friend that recommended this controller to me; she is a serious beer brewer and has several of these.

I use this controller to regulate the temp. for infusing oil with the aroma of Oregon Black and White Truffles. I need to keep a constant temp. to get the truffles to produce the maximum amount of aroma, this unit keeps the temp exactly where I set it. It is easy to change the temps which is required for each species of truffle. You can also easily change the range or deviation from the desired temp in 1* increments ( i.e. 2* +/- from 50*).
The only confusing part in the instructions was how to change the jumpers to either turn the power on or off at the desired set point. It isn't a huge problem if you remember that an open connection is "off" and closed connection is "on". in the refer. One setting allows the refer to regulate the temp below the desired temp using the refers. thermostat, this got the temp. too cold for the truffles I changed the jumper and the refer. stays exactly were I need it to be. The jumpers are very easy to change and should pose minimal challenges to one with basic mechanical abilities.
Just experiment before you put anything of value in the refer.
The unit arrived in a couple of days from my order and was packed well with no damage to the unit.
Only wish I had ordered the two pack!

I've bought two units, one for heating and one for cooling simply because the cover needs to be removed to change jumpers setting to change function. Comparing the two units the temperature is off by 1-2 degrees but they work perfectly for brewing beer.
Addendum: Several question have come up regarding settings. Read the manual, set the jumper to the desired function then TEST with a desk lamp. I set the temperature differential "diF" to one degree, the temperature offset "OFS" and the anti short delay "ASd" to ten minutes. A five gallon brew vessel will hold its temperature for a while so it doesn't have to switch on and off that often.

I am using this to keep my chest freezer at lagering temperatures for my beer and it is working amazingly. It took me a couple of times adjusting it to get it right because I didn't account for the fact that just because it killed the power, the temperature would still drop. Keep that in mind when you are using this or any external thermostat.

Works excellent with the firm wrap for controlling wine temperature in the basement. Use plumers pudy around the probe on the outside of the carboy and wrap the carboy in hot water tank bubble wrap. Painters tape holds on the firm wrap and the pudy.

Other than being a bit pricey, this is an amazing temp control. I am sure it can be used for other things as well, but for homebrewing its a must. One of the first early upgrades a new homebrewer should make is crafting a temp controlled fermentation chamber (read: old fridge with one of these) Also, very needed when building a kegerator or Keezer. Easy, plug and play!

I use it for a keezer I made out of a GE freezer chest. Very accurate and has lots of settings to determine the optimal way to hold a temperature.

I already have one of these that I use for my bar draft beer fridge, and have been very pleased with it. Because I liked the first one so much, when I decided to try some home brewed lager, buying another to control the temperature of my lagering fridge was a no-brainer.
