Very powerful return spring inside. I comes back at you fast, make sure you hand is not in the way cause its enough to sting you if the tip catches from a full length rollup...I know from experience.

The clear tip is moveable, allowing for inside and out side measures. The tape BREAKS at about 7.5 feet. Anything less than that can be mmeasured in the air. Not a great break distance, but more than I need to do wood work. Price is good for what you get. I would buy another if I lost this.

Most of my tape measures have been cheap ones and given the price of this unit, I didn't have high expectations. After receiving it, the first thing I noticed was how substantial and solid the product felt. It's large, easy to grip and the clip system is great since it can be removed. I also like the fact that the end self-adjusts so your inside measuresments come out just as accurate as your outside ones do. The one thing I don't care for is the lack of heft in the tape itself. I like to be able to extend my tapes out close to 8 feet before having them breakdown. This unit can only make it about 6 feet. Overall its a nice addition and will get plenty of use at my house.

1. When I pull it out it stays stiff out to 9'.
2. The quick release button reels it in quickly so it won't get stepped on or damaged.
3. The quick attach holster clip allows you to whip it out at the opportune time and put it back in quickly so it doesn't get lost.
4. The see thru clip is nice so you can start using it even when it's barely out.

I recommend everyone get a "Big Johnson".

The Big Johnson 1" X 25' tape measure is a much better mousetrap. I think the Johnson coroners dissected Stanley, found some serious flaws and designed their own version accordingly. The body of the end hook is clear plastic...no more guessing at less-than-one-inch markings. The dual cursors provide extreme accuracy for inside measurements. The locking mechanism is stout...no slippage even after months of use. On other tapes, the belt clip eventually breaks and/or starts to cam out of its shallow depression on the case. Johnson's design is a two-part deal in which the clip stays attached to your belt and the case clicks in and out of it via an ergonomically designed release lever. When you put the case back on its clip, there's an audible click indicating it's locked in place. Yet another tasty feature is the option to allow the case to rotate freely in its clip or to keep that tray table in its locked and upright position via the use of a movement limiting pin. After having used Stanley tapes, (3" case), for years, it took a while to remember that the Johnson is a 4" case, critical for those pesky but essential inside measurements. What I'd love to see and would be quick to buy is the Johnson machine in a 1" x 16' version with a 3" case.

I got one of these for a gift and have used it at least 5 days a week for over 5 months and it is holding up great. I have dropped it off of a 2 story roof, thrown it due to frustration, and used it as a hammer once and it wont give up. The Belt clip is by far the best I have ever seen. With a quick movement you can unclip it and just as swiftly put it back. No more trying to get the darn metal clip to open enough to hook on something. Great product.

I thought Stanley was the only company to make a good tape measure for years, but I thought I would try a different brand after replacing the Stanley every other year. This tape measure is exceptionally well constructed.
- It doesn't break when accidentally dropped.
- The florescent yellow color makes it effortless to find when the kids' runoff with it and dad "occasionally" misplaces it.
- It comes with a detachable clip that is very ergonomically built.
- The tape lock clicks into place, instead of the standard friction lock (that normally wears out after a short period).
- Also, I like the fact that I can lock the tape with my palm, keeping my thumb free to actually hold the frame of the tape measure
- Inside and outside measurements are to perfection, keeping you from adding and subtraction small measurements as the tapes tip wears out. The tip of this tape is constructed in a manner that will not wear easily.

This tape measurer is much larger than the average low cost ones. It has very easy to read numbers, thick coated tape, big thumb button to lock it in place. Did I mention it was big? After using buget Stanley tapes for so long, it was nice to finally use something that I can see the number from far away. All I can say is that you get what you pay for. This $15 one will out last 3 of the $5 ones.

This tape measure is fine for home use but I think I would spend a couple of extra bucks and get the Fat Max next time.

The nice things about it are that it is sturdy and comes with a nice belt holder with quick release. The tape lip retracts when you are measuring from a direct surface and then pulls out (about a eighth inch) when you are hooking it to the end of an object to measure.

At first I thought the extra large locking mechanism was nice, but after using it for a month now it I think differently. a slight bump while measuring makes it lock the tape measure when you don't want it to.

The design of the tool makes catching the lip of the tape on an object (wood, drywall etc...) difficult and thus the tape seems to want to pull upward on flat surfaces.

For the money, I am satisfied with my purchase of this item.

This tape measure has been a fun tool to use. The fact that it is named "Big Johnson" does make it fodder for jobsite humor, but that's just part of its charm. It is a BIG tape measure and doesn't fit easily into a tape measure pocket; however, it is equipped with its own attachment to hang from your belt. It slips easily off this attachment, as well as stays secure when locked back into place. A nice handful of tape measure that works well and has stood up to the abuse I have given it so far.

I build sets in a theater scene shop. It's best tape I have ever owned. I love that it has a detachable clip. Which is its only downfall if you lose the belt clip.
