This is a very well made and nicely engineered tripod. This should last a lifetime of hard work. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone needing such a thning.

I just got this tripod today. (The day after I ordered it with super saver shipping. Kudos Amazon) I'm happy with it, but with a little work it would be great. The tripod is well built and is as solid as can be expected for 10' of working height. It will wobble a bit if disturbed with a 3 pound rotary level on top, but it seems to settle exactly where it started. I was hoping it would be stable enough in its lowest position for an optical level, but there is some play where the head attaches to the shaft that would make it unsuitable for a device that must be touched frequently. I think I can correct the play, but I shouldn't have to. Also, the "retractable rubber covers" for the spikes are clear rubber tubing which the points of the spikes can protrude through. I would not consider setting this thing up on a hardwood floor with those covers. The spikes are threaded into the legs (8mm x 1.25mm), so I'm going to look for suitable feet for indoor use.

Very well designrd, tough aluminum and the greatest thing is you set your level(laser in my case) any height you want up to 10 feet.

What a breeze it was to set up this tripod. I love the durablity of this tripod. The only downfall that this tripod has are the clasps on the chains that hold the legs together. I still give it a 5 star rating as that is such a small item to fix. I love how it raises and lowers. It's very simple to use and very efficient.

What a great tripod! I needed this for commercial picture/mirror installation and could not be happier with it's performance. Well built and easy to use!

I REALLY wanted one of these for my laser, getting up 10' is pretty cool!
But this tripod was utterly & completely destroyed by UPS in shipment!
"What has Brown done for you today?" is the thought which will always come to mind for me, especially since being without that "elevator" capability is quite a hit!
The boxed product which is larger than the typical pallet size of 40" to 48" inches, was apparently laying flat on a pallet while "over-hanging" the pallet sides in a UPS shipping warehouse somewhere. Some IDIOT apparently pushed an entire row of pallets with the tripod over-hanging the pallet in the middle of the row TOTALLY crushing it big-time! The shipping container was destroyed, the end was completely torn off with the broken tripod hanging out of it! The UPS driver brought it around to my back door, threw it on the ground, rang the door bell, and took off! "What has Brown done for you today?"
One of the broken components was the crank, it looks like metal but actually is some kind of redish colored resin material. It made me think I'd crank the thing/and slide it around when collasped with caution.
I had to return the tripod to Johnson, they were the greatest, but couldn't replace it without shipping it via a UPS shipment. They said they had no "will-call" at their warehouse near Milwaukee (I was going to drive it), and I couldn't order it from a Johnson Distributor either, which seemed a little weird.

Anyway, enjoy yours-they must be the greatest!
