Install Cabinets, Chair Rails, Outdoor Decks, and More
You can use the 40-6515 rotary laser level indoors or outdoors to project a 360-degree horizontal or vertical beam of light and establish a level plain. This is great for anything from installing drop-ceilings and putting in kitchen cabinets to setting foundations, leveling outdoor decks, and building retaining walls. The beam is actually a single dot of light that can rotate at 200, 400, and 600 RPM to give the appearance of a 360-degree chalk line. To switch the tool from a horizontal beam to a vertical one, simply turn it on its side.

Well suited for contractors, framers, and other building professionals, the 40-6515 rotary laser level can help you complete projects more quickly and with fewer people than you could using a traditional level.

Self-Levels for Increased Accuracy
Unlike bubble and spirit levels, whose accuracy depends on the people holding them, the 40-6515 rotary laser level self-levels automatically to within plus or minus 3 degrees. Consequently, as long as your level is calibrated correctly, you can tackle building projects with confidence and achieve error-free results. The tool also has an illuminated vertical vial for manual leveling in the vertical plane. Visual and audible alarms let you know when the device is out of level.

Accurate to Within 1/8 of an Inch
To help you take precise measurements for your project, the 40-6515 is accurate to within plus or minus 1/8 of an inch at up to 50 feet away. It has an interior range of up to 200 feet in diameter, depending on the light conditions, and an exterior range of up to 800 feet in diameter.

Product Information
The 40-6515 rotary laser level can be operated continuously for up to approximately 20 hours on one set of batteries. A locking mechanism protects the inner pendulum when the level is being carried. The level measures 6.69 by 6.61 by 4.96 inches (H x W x D) and weighs 3.3 pounds.

I just bought this unit today on a half off sale. Right out of the package without reading directions I was able to insert new batteries, turn unit on, and try the horizonal and verticle modes. Unit feels heavy and solid. It has a great magnetic lock to hold the pendulum laser head safe when transported. The case is lined with a thick neoprene like padding perfectly fitting the unit. Has room for included red glasses and replacement batteries. Unit also has a jack for an a/c converter in case your batteries run dead and you have access to an outlet. Converter is not included. Unit also has available electronic target for height measurement in bright daylight and over long distances ( supposedly up to 800 ft haven't verified this yet). I recommend the target. Makes the job much easier outside. Bottom has 5/8" thread common for transit tripods. Can get converter for common 1/4" thread so you can use your camera tripod (available aftermarket). All in all a nice package especially at the deal I got. Unit is very simple with 3 speeds of rotation, self leveling in the horizontal. Bubble level in the verticle position. A nice feature is the unit can be user calibrated for accuracy in self level and bubble level modes with directions included to do so. Nice as other units require factory adjusting to restore accuracy if lost. Not bad for a $300 retail price. Most self leveling rotary lasers are $600 to $5000 dollars.

I purchased the level in May 2011. It is the first Johnson Level I have ever purchased. Until now, I have always purchased Topcon and Sokia products which have performed extremely well. This Johnson level model 40-6515 worked great to install kitchen cabinets and three drop ceilings. In December 2011, the laser head spinning started slowing down every 15 seconds and the laser line fluttered up and down 1/8" before spinning back up to full speed and releveling.

The Johnson Level customer service was great, the Johnson Level shipping and receiving was a nightmare. I held off on sending my laser in for repair due to the 2011 holiday shipping season. In January 2012, out of the blue, a rotary laser level was delivered to me by UPS. Not my level, I had not sent my level in yet. Not even the same model of rotary laser level that I already owned. Here is where the saying "no good deed goes unpunished" kicks in. I called Johnson Levels because I thought it was someone else's level and I was sure they would want theirs back. Johnson Levels said my Laser had been received, repaired and sent out. Problem was, MY laser was still sitting on my desk waiting to get shipped for repair. Johnson Level's shipping department had sent me a $1100+ rotary laser level by mistake but they could not track down whose it was (my confidence level dropped low). The level actually sells for around $650+ on Amazon. It took three days of my wasting my time to get the incorrect level picked up by UPS. Johnson Levels offered me a free laser level for my time but I could not get my original laser repaired under warranty if I accepted the free one. No chance, I want a laser level that has a warranty so I chose to send my original laser level in.

I bought this unit for numerous projects around the house. I just finished installing 50 fence posts and used this laser level to keep them at the same height. When finished I checked them with a manual optical construction level and a tape measure and found them to be no more than 1/8" off in a 200' radius. If using this laser level outside you must used the detector, the beam is not visible.

Ordered this to replace another laser that I wore out, but it didn't work for me and returned it. My issue was using it outside. Unlike my previous rotating laser which had a single dot that you could rotate around via remote control, this unit's laser was spun around at various speeds. The drawback was you couldn't see the laser in any kind of sunlight and for my kind of work, walking around with a detector (which didn't come with it) didn't make sense. Too bad, because it seems like a really well-built unit.

No complaints at all. Self-leveling, good range (with laser detector), doesn't burn through batteries. Good match with my "DEWALT DW0737 Tripod" that I also bought on Amazon. BTW, you really need to have the "JOHNSON AccuLine Pro 40-6700 One-Sided Laser Detector with Clamp" to really make this thing useable though, unless you are using it indoors only.

It may be my expectations were to high in the visibility of the red laser line it projects. In well lite places the line is hard to see. I guess this is what you should expect. I am happy with it. The glasses that came with it help a lot.
