5.0 out of 5 stars Very Solid
I must say that i am very impressed with the quality of this tool. It is just as square as my much more expensive maple handle try square. It isn't as pretty but at the price i have no room to complain. This is the 3rd JL&T company tool and it shows that you can still get quality tools at an affordable price.

...and cheap. I think this thing is square. The blade however, is NOT straight. It has a nice bow.
I don't care that the "stainless steel" is not stainless.
For the price, you get what you pay for.

This is the third tool that I've ordered online, made by Johnson Level & Tool, that makes three good investments. Everything including the Steel Try Miter Square is well built, easy to read, and easy to use. I'm just starting my first workshop, and I needed quality tools, on a limited budget and thanks to Amazon.com, and Johnson Level & Tool my workshop is coming to gether nicely, and well within budget.

An essentialsquare for DIYers and their projects. I have not notice any fault with this product and reach for it often.

I have used this square for years and it never failed me nor did it ever rust or stain. The square is as perfect 90 degrees as you can ever find. Although I did not buy it to measure with, it has been very useful for quick measurements. The rule is not meant to be a precision measuring instrument and most try squares do not even have the measurments stamped on the blade so this is a bonus in my opinion. I highly recommend this square and hope that mine will continue to give me years of life. I am giving this 5 stars not because of the price but because of the quality. You will NOT get a more accurate square by spending $50 or more.

1.0 out of 5 stars 450 8" SS Square Johnson Level & Tool Co., June 22, 2001
This review is from: Johnson Level and Tool 450 8-Inch Try & Mitre Square Structo-Cast Handle (Tools & Home Improvement)
Although the square is marked "STAINLESS", the metal rusts very badly. Johnson Level and Tool Co. replaced it after I returned the original one, postpaid, to them. The second one received is no better than the first. I would not purchase any tool from this manufacturer. As a mechanical engineer, I am aware that there are many alloys of stainless steels some of which will rust, but when the manufactured metal product is stamped "STAINLESS", the user does not expect it to rust. The manufacturer has misrepresented the quality of this product to the public.

1.0 out of 5 stars square is square, but rule inaccurate, October 21, 2007

The unit I purchased was square enough, but its rule was WAY off.

The 0 point on the rule at the inside corner was off by 1/20" ! The inch-to-inch stampings were much too inaccurate as well, to my taste.

This item costs little and I didn't buy it to measure length, but a rule this bad should not get out the door. (I found the 0 error about the same on another unit I examined months later.) Doesn't someone eyeball these things, even for a second ?

Johnson's customer service did take care of me promptly when I told them of the problem, but I wouldn't touch another model 450.
