5.0 out of 5 stars Great Motor
I purchased this motor in Sept. And have used it a number of times. I love the fact that it is bow mounted. Ya, the pedal is big. And it has plastic gears, but it turns so easily that I don't think it matters. For $349. I don't think you can go too far wrong.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK!
This will be my first bow mounted trolling motor. Here are my thoughts after using it for the first time today. Foot pedal is large and somewhat difficult to use. Instructions weren't all that great. There is a huge difference between the power 4 and 5. It's almost like going from 4 to 10!!! Speed 5 is VERY fast compared to what I had. We were really moving in my 16'...

We were really moving in my 16' aluminum V-Bottom! I wish the length of the cable and battery wiring was longer! It'll probably do the job and I'll probably get used to it, but these were my first thoughts!

This review is from: Minn Kota Edge 45/L&D Bow - mount 12V 5 - speed Trolling Motor (Automotive)
installed fast, and works great but the plastic housing that connects to the top of the shaft should be better. mine cracked and the cracks keep spreading so will have to buy another trolling motor soon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware - BoatingSavings False advertising, October 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this item because it was advertised as follows "Easy-to-read, illuminated Indicator leaves no doubt about where you're headed, so you can pay attention to fishing, not your motor." After installing the unit I was disappointed to find out that the direction indicator is NOT illuminated. I contacted BoatingSavings to find out if the unit is defective or was the advertisement incorrect.

According to the BoatingSavings Product specialist, Cassie, "this item is supposed to be illuminated".

When I contacted Minn Kota, they sated "Unfortunately the Edge models motors do not have a lighted indicator switch. However one can be added to this model. You will need the the 2264015 indicator light and two of the 2375400 heat shrink. The total on parts will be $5.20 plus $9.40 shipping. You can order parts directly from us by calling 1-800-227-6433 or by contacting your local Minn Kota service center."

I then informed BoatingSavings of thier error and offered to install the light kit on my own if they would provide some commerical consideration ($15 credit). I thought my proposal would be a win-win since it would save them the $40 return shipping and keep me from having to repackage and return the unit. Boating Savings rejected my proposal and said that all they could do was issue me a return credit.

Needless to say I am very unhappy customer. I will wind up ordering the kit myself and installing it.

BoatingSavings stated they would correct the adverising error, but as of this review they still had not done so.

Buyer beware!
