This is the best dental floss I have ever used.
Amazed
I don't know what this material is, but oddly it gave both me and my wife the distinct impression of being made from recycled tires.

Love the stretchy-ness but most of all it never tears and leaves pieces between your teeth.

It's insane. Who writes a review of floss?

I do. And it's because I have always hated floss. Either it was effective but "shreddy," or ineffective (read, texture-free) and strong. So, I stuck to the strong, slick flosses, discontentedly getting larger particles and troublesome vegetable matter from between the teeth, but missing out on that "scrubbed free of imperfection" feeling we sociopathic -- I mean, hygienically astute -- compulsives crave.

Suddenly, like a floss phoenix from the flames of dental care mediocrity, rises Johnson & Johnson Reach Ultraclean. Super-strong, slightly elastic, and with a "microtexture" on the band of super-strong floss, Ultraclean floss holds up between tight teeth, and scrubs effectively over the sides of the teeth and over the gingival mound. Phenomenal.

And discontinued. The J&J Reach site ([...]) shows they continue to manufacture something akin to the Ultraclean in a "Total Care" floss, but that line promises "Listerine Flavors," which, in this reviewer's humble opinion, is something like offering pizza that comes in "Battery Acid Flavors."

Anyway, it'll be around for a while, but, like the Today Sponge, will need to be stockpiled. Not that I ever stockpiled Today Sponges. That was Elaine. From Seinfeld.

Uh.

Over and out.

This is a fabulous product. I love that it stretches and doesn't break. It's easy to use, tastes good and does a better job of cleaning my teeth than any other similar product I've tried so far. Also I don't have to use as much as other products I've tried, so that's a savings. I received a trial package from the dental school I go to, and the only complaint I have is that I had and still have difficulty finding it. Perhaps it's too new so therefore not yet available everywhere. It's worth the hunt though. Great floss!!!!!

i havent really tried a whole lot of different dental flosses but ill say this about the reach total care, the blue one, it's a different type of material flexible and stretches, and it doesn't really cause that painful "pop" that you are probably familiar with, at least not with me.

all in all, flossing used to be a pain in the... well.. MOUTH (lol) but now i dont mind it at all.. and i think thats the best think you could say in a dental floss product review.

This is the best dental floss I have ever used. Where I live it is sold out everywhere I look. Needless to say that's why I'm here looking for another way to purchase it as I can't stand using anything else. This blue scrubbing floss is kind of revolutionary! I really hope and pray it's here to stay! I've never found a dental floss that was so efficient at removing plaque! For years before I found this micro grooved scrubbing floss, I used the thin unwaxed floss every night; but my dentist said he couldn't tell I had flossed. One day I was watching in a magnified mirror as I flossed and saw the sticky plaque maneuver around my unwaxed dental floss. I'd unstick it in one spot but it was sticky and wide enough that it would just restick itself. Not so with the REACH Total Care, I can even tell now when I've gotten all the plaque off. It feels squeaky clean as the blue micro floss scrapes away and captures the sticky plaque in it's micro plastic velcro like textured gripping grooves.

Reach Floss is different from other flosses in several key characteristics. This leads to superior performance. It is a ribbon not a thread. Thus, it covers more surface area and is easier to hold.

The surface is rough, i.e. the microgrooves, also making it easier to hold. The rough surface is also better at material removal than smooth waxed surfaces.

Finally, it stretches. This may not seem like much at first, but the stretchyness means that you do not have to get the length exactly right or keep changing your grip. The length adjusts to your need.

There is only one downside: the cost. Reach Total Care Floss costs more than standard dental flosses. However, it is competitive with Oral-B Floss Tape. Reach's superior performance makes it worthwhile.

I'm a cheapskate, and my love of this product might turn some readers off. I like to reuse floss: it's expensive. My practice is to brush my teeth and then floss (so I'm not particularly concerned about bacteria build up). If the floss holds up, I'll use it again and again. Most floss breaks after a couple of uses. Not this one. It has excellent tensile strength.

My procedure might be of interest for anyone who can stomach such reuse: I pull out a long length of floss and wrap it around my fingers, exposing one end of the floss for use. Ultimately, that end will break. But then because the original length is generous, I can continue using it - discarding the short end of the floss that broke off. After many repetitions of this procedure, I'm ready to pull out a brand new long strand.

Bottom line: this product is superb. I think it's very hard to find these days; one of the reasons might be that it's too good - and because of people like me, the company isn't making much money from it. After all, the way to make money is to sell products with short lives so that customers have to buy them over and over again.
