This review is from: Johnsons Old Grey Mule (Audio CD)
Great album. The whole thing is worth it for "All Gone Now." Georgia was one of the greatest hotbeds of string band old time fiddle music in the 1920s and early 1930s and the hammers have that Georgia sound, same as you'd hear in Earl Johnson or the Skillet Lickers or the Cofer Brothers, that high energy sound. Plus for the hammers placed a lot of emphasis on singing, and just have fat sound. Might seem like a lot of money for a CD, but these BACM cds have some harder to find stuff. There's a video from a guy bayrum on you tube doing all gone now with six string banjo accompaniment if you want to get an idea of the hammers sound.
