In the beginning...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Join the Army (Audio CD)
This album was prelude to the future direction of ST. Join The Army was the separation of the simple punk motive and a step into the more hardcore fusion of punk and thrash metal.... Friggin' radical!

Sounds like a war going on inside my head! AWSOME!!!,

The second ST effort jams.Plain and simple. Four years after their debut and some new faces (except Muir of course) the sound is raw and heavy thanks to new guitarist Rocky George. The songs hit home with me. I wish I could vent my frustration and hatred like Mike Muir can,but listening to him is the next best thing, because I can relate. "War Inside My Head" is my anthem.Bunches and bunches of 2-3 minute jams on this dynamo! "Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right" (great tune!) a stupid quote my elementary school principal used to say to me when I would clock someone.I just wish I would have retorted "but they make me feel a whole lot better". Way to go Mike! Keep saying it like it is!

Sorry to all you guys that love Primus so much, but the Lester Claypool that produced this album is not the same guy with the big bass. that of course doesn't change the fact that this record rocks the house- turn it up and listen to just the into for "a little each day" and see if your heart rate doesn't jump up!

This review is from: Join the Army (Audio CD)
If you don't have "join the army" and you like S.T. then you should stop reading this and get this amazing blend of hardcore and trash metal.Best track for me: Join the army, a little each day, the prisoner, war inside my head, i feel your pain, possessed to skate, no name no words, looking in your eyes.

Crossover continued..full steam ahead. 5 stars,

This album continued in the tradition of the "crossover" style rock, from punk to metal, soundly more metallic than the first album. They're both 5 star albums though, which is good for us fans because we get to own both and appreciate them for different reasons. This album is a bit longer with more songs on it and even a ballot; I Die a Little Each Day. Just a teeny bit slower than the first album yet moderately more metallic this was the last album that sounded anything like punk rock. Their next album was way different, but guess what? It was also a 5 star...In my opinion buy all three of the S.T.'s first three albums. This one fits perfectly in between Instituitionalized and How Will I Laugh.

The Few The Proud,
By Doug Brunell "America's Favorite Son" (A little south of Hell) - See all my reviews

ST's second outing is far more metal than its first ... and it works. It took the sound created with the self-titled release and made it more emotional and primal. The overt politics were practically ditched in favor of introspection, which irritated a few of the less intellectual fans. Not to say "Join the Army" is for Ivory Tower elite. Far from it. It is, however, for people who want a little more out of life than just swilling beer and watching the game ... but who also enjoy a good fight.
This album set the tone for ST's future ... for the most part. The band got a little softer with future releases, and lost what once made it great. But anyone going to high school when this came out, and who liked punk/metal music, probably listened to this a few times a week as it captured that spirit perfectly.

A Blend of Hard Core and Thrash,
By Fred Rayworth (Las Vegas, NV United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Join the Army (Audio CD)
I picked this album up in the mid eighties and it took about two listens to really get into it. I can say that it is probably the only hard core I've ever liked. This album is more thrash than anything and that is what I liked about it the most. They blended the thrash with hard core and a sort of rap vibe and this is the only time I ever liked that rap vibe except when Anthrax did "I'm The Man" as a goof. I guess it is the phrasing of the vocals that gives me that impression, not so much that he actually rapped.
There are some great cuts on this album and though I haven't listened to it in many years, I can still remember Join The Army and War Inside My Head. Never got to see them live but saw them a few times on Headbanger's Ball before it sucked. The sound is raw, loud, and aggressive and I highly recommend it.

Suicidal For Life,

If u ain't Suicidal, you aint booop! And if you think this was Sui's last great music, you are dead wrong and not listening very closely. Yes, this is just another amazing disc from the best band to ever record one. Punk classics not to be missed include the title track, "You Got, I Want", "War Inside My Head","Possessed to Skate", and really all the other tracks too. Like the Venice homie sez, this is the real deal. Keeping it non-fiction!! Muir is still going strong and is as vital as ever, self-releasing new CDs all the time. Check the official site at suicidaltendencies.com. And wake up! Just because your faith may have died 15 years ago, doesn't mean punk did. :-)Get real and stay cyco!!

This album brings lots of memories back into my mind.We were this album. We (venice boys)lived it ,day in and day out. It was some of the best times and also some of the very worst times too! Still, I dont have to attempt to relive any of it.Thanks to Mike,Rocky ,RJ,and last but not least ...THE O.G. S.T bassist ...LOUIE! ,I dont have to. This album takes me back to those days (Los Cycos,No/Mercy,crazy days),all on its own. Everytime I hear Suicidal Maniac .....Im right there allover again. Trust me when I tell you people out there this....At the very least , this album is not bull-s..t.. This is one of the most honest albums of all time! I should know I was there. ..I lived it..(AND I OFTEN STILL DO , THANKS TO "JOIN THE ARMY")...S.T. PUNKS.FOREVER....later.

The only good punk band, Suicidal Tendencies!,
By "brent666" (north dakota) - See all my reviews

This is Suicdal Tendencies' 2nd album. Everything after this isn't that great. The best tracks are "Suicidal Maniac", "Join The Army", "No Name, No Words", and "Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right". What's cool is that Les Claypool from Primus produced this.
