5.0 out of 5 stars Voices that blow U away! You're heart will thank U 4 it!, October 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Join the Band (Audio CD)
Take 6 comes on to the scene with an album that touches everyone. The legendary voices of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Queen Latifah, come to, as the album is called, "Join the Band." This group of talented gentlemen wrap you tight in their R&B tunes and when you think it can't get any better they send home with a Sweet Lullaby that leaves you wanting more. The song, "You Can Never Ask (Of Love)," is one song that has been deprived from the American audience. Its lyrics are worth its price in gold. You can't go wrong with this CD. I've had it now for four years and still love it. And the song, "You Can Never Ask (Of Love)," has become one of my all-time favorites. I've already advanced ordered Take 6's newest CD "So Cool," and if its anything like the others I own it'll be another elaborate album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Under-rated CD, February 12, 2005
This review is from: Join the Band (Audio CD)
Take 6's 4th CD Join the band Is a truely remarkable CD. When They first Collaborated for This CD announcing that the songs would be partial accapella and and some instrumental backing, there was quite a schism in the T6 Community. I heard many Avid Take 6 fans and friends that said this CD wasnt their greatest work, but I disagree.
While it wasnt completely Accapella, They sustained a great mix of pieces ; a combination of Accapella pieces as well as Instrumental pieces. The songs were very moving especially the collaborations and even the first track that starts the CD was awesome mix of vocals and electronic backing.

Dont get me wrong.. Take 6 are definately at their GREATEST when they do accapella and Id love for them to keep doing accapella in the future; but we must allow them to explore and expand their horizons as well.

For me this CD is definately *MY* Favorite It showed more innovation and memorable tunes; and not to mention that MOST of the songs here got more AIR and radio time then all of the other CD's Combined (besides the Christmas ones)
All I need, Even though,Biggest part of me,Why I feel this way,You can never ask too much of love,.. These are examples of songs that I heard *MANY* times on the radio, Christian and Jazz, and even R&B.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it!, April 25, 2000

I read the other reviews and agree. I like the entire CD, but I do have my favorites--"I've got life, Your love is why I feel this way (with Stevie Wonder),Lullaby, All I need is a chance, and My Friend (with Ray Charles)". Take 6 continues to amaze me with their arrangements that only they can do. Whether acappella or not, these guys can do no wrong vocally! I've had this CD for about 5 or 6 years and still listen to it constantly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Three Strikes, You're In!!!, April 8, 2002

The third in a line of successes for Take 6 was a blessing to my ears. Even though I thoroughly enjoy the a capella music of Take 6, they showed versatility with this musical endeavor. Sing songs with such greats as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Queen Latifah definitely gave them an edge on the market. Biggest Part of Me took me back and showed true talent and Its Gonna Rain proved that they haven't lost the a capella touch.

This, the third album of the Take 6 legacy, is certainly a truly remarkable work. The album is very balanced with acapella and band pieces. I love this CD, because it shows the diversity and adaptability of the artists. With featured artists like Queen Latifa; "Harmony" and Ray Charles; "My Friend", Take 6 has shown they can groove with every genre of music. My favorite song on the album is "I've Got Life". This song is filled with so much energy. It gives me the feeling of the amalgamation of two bands: gospel and jazz. Please do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A belated a fan of this album, January 7, 2001
This review is from: Join the Band (Audio CD)
if i'm not mistaken, in So Cool, Take 6 says they will disavow doing work with non-human voice musicians. I love So Cool, but if they don't do another album like Join the Band, it would be a huge mistake. This is a great album, and certainly, the backup musicians complement and don't overshadow the singers. By the way, I would recomend this album to closet Earth Wind and Fire fans. This takes what they were doing, musically, to the next logical level.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect blend of vocal and instrumental harmony!, December 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Join the Band (Audio CD)
Being a dedicated fan of Take 6 for 10 years, I enjoy their occasional escapades away from a capella. This project is a fine example. Don't get me wrong, I agree they are best at doing the a capella thing; but having mastered the craft, it's refreshing to hear the big band sound. Some of their best work can be found on this CD(BIGGEST PART OF ME, YOU CAN NEVER ASK TO MUCH OF LOVE, IT'S GONNA RAIN,etc.). 'Harmony' featuring Queen Latifah, should have been released as a single. It delivers a powerful punch against racism! And with an Allstar cast rounding out numerous tracks, your listening pleasures will be fulfilled! This Grammy winner should have been nominated for Album of the Year!!!!!
