Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Isachsen, a management consultant and coauthor of Working Together (Neworld, 1989), takes two approaches uncommon to the typical business and management book. First, instead of the usual hyperbolic approach to business, he asserts that what he writes "is neither new nor revolutionary; it is old, evolutionary, and time tested." Second, rather than providing a cursory glimpse of every conceivable topic related to entrepreneurship, he focuses on entrepreneurial styles. The result is pragmatic and a pleasure to read. Although Isachsen makes only occasional reference to them, the reader acquainted with the work of Carl Jung and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator will note their influence in his description of four entrepreneurial types: the administrator, the tactician, the strategist, and the idealist. Isachsen devotes a quarter of the book to each type and how they achieve their goals in drastically different ways. He then supplements his descriptions with real-life examples of successful entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs and wannabes will benefit from the insights provided here.?Alan J. Review

There are basically four distinct entrepreneurial styles. They are "Administrators" who enjoy the responsibility of taking an organization into the future by developing the optimal use of its resources. Administrators are best at continuing to build existing enterprises. "Tacticians" are risk takers, easily excited by spur-of-the-moment opportunities. Tacticians thrive by delivering spectacular performance within a known technology. "Idealists" are those driven most by the delivery of a product or service of lasting value rather than the desire for money. Idealists work best when evolving a dream into an enterprise. "Strategist" are those who yearn to arrive at the future first and are most engaged by meeting the challenge of the unknown. Intuitive, visionary, and driven by a sense of urgency, Strategists are best at bringing into being new ideas and enterprises. Joining The Entrepreneurial Elite includes the success stories of sixteen entrepreneurs who demonstrated their entrepreneurial styles inaction. By capitalizing on your strengths and partnering with key players who complement them, you minimize the risks of new enterprise and ensure performance at your personal best. Joining The Entrepreneurial Elite is exciting, informative, self-revelatory reading for anyone engaging in (or merely contemplating) an entrepreneurial activity. -- Midwest Book Review
