Prior to the '90s, joint time-frequency analysis (JTFA) had been confined to academic research because of the complexity of the algorithms and the limitations of computing power. But later progress in the area of JTFA and the PC technology have dramatically expanded JTFA applications.
Addressing the area's growing demand for more comprehensive material, Joint Time-Frequency Analysis: Methods and Applications offers insight into successful applications and covers both linear and bilinear algorithms. More than a hundred illustrations and an extensive bibliography provide additional support.
Joint Time-Frequency Analysis: Methods and Applications is separated into three parts. Part I reviews classical signal analysis fundamentals for JTFA. Theoretical developments are presented in Part II. Well-known time-frequency algorithms and two proven JTFA algorithms (time-frequency distribution series and adaptive spectrogram) are introduced and their pros and cons are also addressed. Part III discusses three real JTFA applications in the areas of radar image processing, biomedical signal analysis, and economy data analysis contributed by experts in their respective fields. Each chapter begins with a discussion of motivation, progresses to theoretical analysis, and concludes with numerical implementations. Key topics include: Short-Time Fourier Transform and Gabor Expansion Wavelets for JTFA Wigner-Ville Distribution and Cohen's Class Time-Frequency Distribution Series (Gabor Spectrogram) Adaptive Time-Frequency Representation and Adaptive Spectrogram Time-Variant Filtering
Also included are two floppy disks containing a limited version of the Joint Time-Frequency Analyzer developed by National Instruments Corporation. Together with the dozen examples found in the book, the reader can quickly learn and experience different JTFA algorithms discussed in this book.

This review is from: Joint Time-Frequency Analysis: Method and Application (Bk/Disk) (Hardcover)
This is a nice introductory textbook for the practice-oriented reader. The math treatment is quite light, but sufficient to provide a good feeling about the underlying theory...people needing a more math-oriented treatment can go to Grochenig.

an excellent and very detailed book for the DSP Community,
This review is from: Joint Time-Frequency Analysis: Method and Application (Bk/Disk) (Hardcover)
For the people who needs to learn and practice about JTFA, this book will give to him or her a very detailed theory and some very good examples over this technique, which has more and more applications in the day-to-day changing world of DSP.

Nice overview,
This review is from: Joint Time-Frequency Analysis: Method and Application (Bk/Disk) (Hardcover)
This text is a nice, clear introduction to the various methods for time frequency analysis for engineers. The proofs are more detailed than in some other texts, though there were some errors or typos. I liked this book better than the other one that I have, Time Frequency Analysis by Leon Cohen, which is somewhat out of date (wavelets are referred to as scale here) and also has minor errors in the proofs.
