5.0 out of 5 stars The Fizz Keeper Works! Please Read This
Sorry Palmer (and the American Chemical Society) I have used the Fizz Keeper for more than 5 years and I KNOW it works! The only time any of mine have ever failed is when they have cracked around the top rim or when I didn't pump them enough times. I have one pump which is still working after 5 years. With care, I am certain your Fizz Keeper will last as long...

3.0 out of 5 stars I love this product, but the shipping price is outrageous.
I've had two Fizz Keepers for over five years, use them constantly and they're still going strong. I like them so much, in fact, I decided to order a bunch for Christmas presents for my colleagues at work and my family and friends.

However, when I saw the shipping cost, I went into shock. $27.95 might be understandable if I'd asked for Next Day or Express...

With care, I am certain your Fizz Keeper will last as long.

Here is the best way to use them.

1. Don't put them on a bottle until you have drank enough so that the pump isn't sitting in the drink. The sugars in the soda can cause the pump to stick.

2. As much as possible, don't shake or get the pump drenched in soda.

3. As soon as you're done pouring your drink put the pump back on the bottle, pump the pressure back up and stick it back in the fridge.

4. As the amount of soda in the bottle drops, you will have to pump the Fizz Keeper more times.

Here's how many times I pump it: Top 1/3 10 to 12 times. 50% gone ... 18 to 20 times. 1/3 or less left, 30 times. If you don't keep enough air pressure in the bottle, the carbonation will come out of the soda as the level drops and fill the vacuum left in the bottle. I pump the Fizz Keeper until I find it hard to squeeze the bottle in at its sides.

Don't shake the bottle as you pump. This agitates the carbonation and causes it to leave the liquid. Place the bottle on something solid, like a counter, and then start pumping.

5. As you pump, don't bang your Fizz Keeper. If it's making a clapping sound as you pump. You are pumping it too hard. Don't try and draw a full stroke on it, partial (3/4 strokes) will allow it to last as long as possible. Once it starts to crack around the top rim it's done for and you'll have buy a new one.

6. Remove and rinse it with water after the bottle is empty.

I hope the above helps all who are considering buying this little marvel.

I have purchased and used almost all of the various soda keepers on the market and this is the only one I can recommend. You are gonna love it and use it often!

*******

I thought I would add the following. Though Kurt Greske is correct about air being more soluable in water than the carbonation. In a "closed system" like a plastic bottle that process will take some time to occur. Unlike your lungs (which are an open system) the carbonation has to go somewhere; hence the process doesn't occur immediately. It takes some time. As long as you finish the bottle within a couple of weeks I doubt you will even notice what loss does occur. After all, I doubt any of us would want to drink from a soda bottle that was opened two months ago. All I ask the Fizz Keeper to do is extend the life of the soda a reasonable length of time. For me, that's two weeks, maybe less.

Wow! It didn't go flat on me. This is one of those simple ideas that should have been thought of years ago when they first invented plastic soda bottles. Screw it on and pump it up a little. Your open bottle of soda will now last up to a week or more. Made right, they last a long time too. Have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars It works every time for us, July 6, 2006
This review is from: Jokari Fizz-Keeper Pump Cap for 2-Liter Bottles (Kitchen)
We LOVE this item -- our soda doesn't go flat, even if there is just a little soda left. Perhaps the other reviewer didn't pump it enough times? We've used this for over 5 years now, without problem -- except they're so HARD to find!

It seems to work by putting enough air pressure into the bottle so the carbonation doesn't have 'room' to pop and go flat. Please restock these!

UPDATE 12/5/2011: We still love these. They still work for us. We are still using the same ones, although one did break it seal and stop working after 4 years of daily use. I don't know how they work; I just know they do.

I got one of these to see if they worked and now I want more of them. It really does work. Simple to use and a real money saver since you won't be throwing away flat soda/pop like you used to. Please get some more of these in stock!!!

I've used these for several years without problem. It kept a half-empty coke bottle fully carbonated for 4 weeks while I was away. Don't understand how anyone can give it a bad review. Theory is simple, it keeps maximim pressure inside the bottle - as if it were unopened - to keep soda from going flat. Being a big pop drinker, I couldn't do without them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fizz Keeper Rocks!, October 25, 2007
This review is from: Jokari Fizz-Keeper Pump Cap for 2-Liter Bottles (Kitchen)
No spokesperson, just a huge fan. I'd had a Jokari Fizz Keeper Pump Bottle Cap for years before it recently gave out. I then purchased five more - one for myself, four to give to family / friends for Christmas. Fantastic product that works exactly as promised. I can't count how many half-full bottles of soda Fizz Keeper has saved! Do yourself the favor -- [ASIN:B00004XSH3 Jokari Fizz Keeper Pump Bottle Cap].

I've had two Fizz Keepers for over five years, use them constantly and they're still going strong. I like them so much, in fact, I decided to order a bunch for Christmas presents for my colleagues at work and my family and friends.

However, when I saw the shipping cost, I went into shock. $27.95 might be understandable if I'd asked for Next Day or Express delivery, but I didn't.

To say the distributor is gouging on their shipping and handling charges is putting it mildly. Far from giving any kind of a quantity discount, the bigger the order, the more they charge; (which is probably I can no longer find the Fizz Keepers in any of my local stores).

Even though I choked on the shipping charge, I went ahead with my order anyway. However, it'll be a cold day you know where before I order anything from this distributor again.

In closing, under normal circumstances I would have given this excellent product five stars. However, because of the gouging on the shipping and handling charges, and for that reason alone, I'm only giving it three stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carbonation Junkie, January 12, 2012
This review is from: Jokari Fizz-Keeper Pump Cap for 2-Liter Bottles (Kitchen)
I have been using this type of device for years to keep seltzer, soda and other fizzy drinks fresh and bubbly. I really prefer the Fizz-Keeper Pump Cap to the round cap kind that you squeeze. This a much superior product because they last a long time, they maintain the carbonation and do not develop air leaks and leave you flat. My only problem is that they're hard to find. If I see them displayed in some odd corner of the grocery store, I always grab a few because I never know when and where they'll show up next.

4.0 out of 5 stars does the job, May 19, 2011

If you are not expecting a product that keeps your soft drink exactly like the day you opened it, but rather simply extends the life--just as the product intends--then this is a good solution. My 2 liter of Coke Zero kept the carbonation/taste for at least 2-3 extra days-just enough time for me to finish without having to suffer a flat glass at the end. I followed the other woman's review on number of pumps per amount of soda left which worked well. The only slight issue I have is how hard it is to screw the top off once it's in use. (I may be tightening it too much to begin with though.) For the price, it's worth a go as long as you keep your expectations in check. I'm ordering another for a gift so that says something...

The device pumps so little air it takes a good while to pump, worse still the valve appears to not hold the pressure well.
