Product Description

Pasta is good for us. It's cholesterol-free and virtually fat and sodium free; but sometimes we're inclined to eat larger portions than we should. O Magazine and Food Network Magazine have already sung the praises of Jokari's Healthy Steps Portion Control Pasta Basket because it's the ideal way to measure, cook and strain a correctly-sized single serving of your favorite pasta. The collapsible silicone basket not only accommodates pots of varying depths, it also provides a contained cooking space to ensure that you won't cook more pasta than you need (and then be tempted to eat "just a little bit more!") But it's not just for pasta, because it also easily steams vegetables or seafood and, because up to four baskets fit into one pot, it's perfect for preparing an entire meal knowing that everything is properly measured without the fuss of weighing or counting calories. Wow, now you can actually eat everything on your plate and still feel good about it! Jokari's Portion Control Pasta Basket helps you to prepare healthy foods at home faster and easier; top rack dishwasher safe. For over 40 years, Jokari has held a special place in its heart for gadgets; today, they specialize in providing affordable solutions to common problems faced by consumers. From unique kitchen gadgets and household storage and organization solutions to their Healthy Steps kitchen tools designed to help with portion control and healthy eating, Jokari is committed to creating useful and often crazy looking "thingamajigs" that are fun, colorful and easy to use.

Customer Questions & Answers

Customer Reviews

I love pasta, but I was always confused as to how much one portion really was.
Tracie B
I use it for more than pasta, although it is handy for that to portion how much pasta you are supposed to have.
Denise
It takes longer to cook the pasta in this "pasta basket" and you need to boil the same amount of water.

I absolutely love these! They are super easy to use (a real no-brainer)and you can do more with them than cook pasta. I use these to add powerful spices - the ones you don't want to eat or leave sitting in your dish cause they will over power the food - (Bay Leaf, peppercorns, CLOVES, garlic, etc) to a dish. When I'm done I just chuck the spices and enjoy the dish. Clean up is a snap - just thrown them in the dishwasher fully extended and that's it! I love these and don't know what I'd do without them.

Jokari 229476 Pasta Basket
This is a great tool. Packaging says that you can make several pastas side by side, but even if you use it as a strainer, it is awesome. And it is collapsable - saves storage space. It is great if you have to watch your portions or would like to cook a little bit at a time. I don't mind it for the family meals just because it is pretty and very functional

It seems to me that the pasta doesn't cook as well in these little baskets. And while it's nice to have these smaller portons measured out, I'm using way more water than I would if I just measured the pasta out and tossed it into the pot.
The amount of water needed to cover the pasta when it's in these baskets it way more than you would use if the pasta was just free floating in the pot.
This item just wasn't practical enough for me.

Save your money. You do not need this device. Just measure your pasta in a normal measuring cup and cook as you normally would in boiling water. It takes longer to cook the pasta in this "pasta basket" and you need to boil the same amount of water. I am surprised Dr Oz presented this on his show.

My doctor put me on a diet. I can not judge what a portion is so I bought the Pasta Basket. It works for me and I can cook my Pasta and other boiled food in it as well. It saves time and if you buy (4) four of them you can cook a meal for the family and they will not know that they are also getting portion sizes served to them, unless you tell them. It works great for us.

I bought four of these baskets to be able to steam multiple items separately in the same pot, less so for their portion control properties. In fact, I'm not even sure I get the point of a portion-controlled strainer. The collapsable design is awesome, and each basket balances nicely to the pot on its own (which I was initially worried about). BUT, the basket rims are tragically too large to fit more than one or two in all but my widest 20 quart stock pot, which I don't regularly use. As a result, I don't regularly use these baskets either.

I would probably love them if they were smaller, though.

It was not what I hoped for. The containers aren't deep enough to reach far enough in the pot to be submerged in the boiling water. If I fill the pot any fuller, the water will boil over the pot.

Portion Control Pasta Basket: great idea--my 84 year old mom just can't hack whole wheat pasta (loves Angel Hair), so I can have my whole wheat and she can have her loved Angel Hair--cooking side by side in the same pot! Promotes smiles & family harmony...plus great tool for mulling cider: put whole cloves plus other spices into the little basket & make tasty hot cider a breeze.
