4.0 out of 5 stars Joke Stew provides a hardy laugh!, April 23, 2001

This book is a must have for aspiring comics and comedy lovers alike. Brown's book is a tool that inspires as well as guides those interested in the art of joke writing. The book includes a wide range of talent from legendary comics like Bill Cosby to the up and coming comedic stars of tomorrow. If nothing else the book allows the reader the opportunity to learn what makes these neurotic people tick.

Joke Stew is fantastic! It's a lot of fun to have on your coffee table. You can pick it up and browse for hilarious observations on any subject (great for when you need a funny quote to begin speeches and presentations).

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny!, October 14, 2000

I recently bought this book after reading an article about it in the newspaper. It is full of jokes from a wide variety of comedians. The jokes are arranged by subject and ALL (with few exceptions)of them are hilarious. Comedians in this book range from the legendary(George Carlin,Richard Pryor) to late night talk show hosts (Leno, Letterman, Johnny Carson, Dennis Miller) to brand new stand ups (Mitch Hedberg, Dave Attel)and many more. The only complaint I have about this book is that it loses the delivery of the more animated comedians which can make a few jokes sound awkward if you are not familiar with the comic. Highly recommended for fans of stand up comedy!

I was looking for just a plain funny one liner or short joke book without references relating to origin of joke or when that pick up was used in history , what were circumstances . who used it...i didn`t like that format much May be because i`m still not in my 50`s or i`m not doing any PHD in comic history or policital pickup quotes - mostly comic books I bought fell under that category (pointing to Mardy Groth books, Quick Quotation books- they had less fun and more preachy content ,reminding you of sunday mass ) until i order my first Judy Brown "Funny Pages" that was bashed a lot by critics as she is stealing jokes ...etc - In my opinion she gave credit to every single comedians who created them by mentioning their names and later pay them $ too (though it involved shake up of law suit "buy" Jay Leno... Burn Leno burn ...what you gonna do brother about NBC now )
Anyhow by now i have ordered all books by Judy Brown and there is content overlap between them but thats no more then 3% .so if you want quick laugh or just people expect you to be funny all the time and you are out of creating your own jokes - Try any book by Judy -you are in for a treat --No i`m no agent or relative of Brown just i had all respect for a lady who arranged a good chunk of comedy in few books - Kudos

5.0 out of 5 stars fun variety of jokes, June 20, 2005

"Joke Stew" contains a wonderful variety of jokes, covering a great variety of topics and types of humor. There are a few with adult humour, but there seems to be nothing nasty or insulting or immoral or politically prejudiced (e.g., some other joke books starting off on page one with "Abortion" kinda kills the mood). "Joke Stew" is light hearted fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read...., April 10, 2001
This review is from: Joke Stew 1,349 More Hilarious Servings (Paperback)
Joke Stew is a great way for a reader to get in touch with his or her favorite stand-up comedians. It's a lot of fun to read over and over again as you try and remember your favorite jokes. Same recipe as Joke Soup, but with all new comedians and quotes. Great Book!!!

I have copies of both JOKE SOUP and JOKE STEW. I actually bought several copies of both to have on hand as gifts for any and all occasions. You'll find an amazing amount of comics and their funniest material in these books. Whether you're a stand-up comic yourself or you need to give a speech for any occasion, you'll find Judy's books invaluable as inspiration in writing your own funny jokes.

Judy Brown has done it again! As in her first book Joke Soup, Judy Brown has collected an unbelievable amount of material from the best comics around, (young and old). This is the perfect book to pick up and put down (i.e. great for reading whilst visiting the commode). I bought several copies for people in my family all of whom loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, March 22, 2001

I bought this book for my family. We sat around the dinner table one night reading jokes to each other. We all found topics and special comedians that we liked. There was something for everyone's type of humor in there. It's great to pick up when you need a few laughs and I've given it as a gift to several of my friends as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Fat, March 21, 2001
This review is from: Joke Stew 1,349 More Hilarious Servings (Paperback)
I have hundreds of joke books, collections of humorous essays, funny plays and screenplays. In each I have to wade through a lot of junk to get to the funny parts. In Joke Soup, Judy Brown has cut out the fat and serves up nothing but the funny stuff. Joke Soup features jokes from hundreds of today's best comedians, from the famous and not so famous(ok, that would be me). Just buy it- you'll laugh out loud!
