What a surprise this amp is! First of all this amp runs very hot with the glass cover on. That's a no-no; heat is the prime enemy of tubes. I removed the cover and placed 4 rubber feet on the bottom at each corner. The cover is held on by a combination foot/screw so if you don't want to use the glass cover you will need to add rubber buttons at each corner, because the bottom is vented, so you shouldn't place the amp on a surface without some elevation. Without its cover, the amp simply runs warm like any other tube amp.

My source for this review is a Jolida tube CD player and the speakers are Dali Ikon 6 towers (Sensitivity 92dB). They are 6 ohms and sound best on the Jolida's 4 ohm tap. I use Kimber 4PR Biwire speaker cables (8ft). I'm running the stock factory tubes in both the amp and CD player. My room is 2,100 cubic feet.

Sound profile: There is tight and nice lower bass that adds to the bass excitement. The mids are lush and transparent. The highs are extended without being etchy. There is nice air around the instruments. This is a warm sounding tube amp without any tube veiling. Imaging capability places it with the best of the EL84 tube amps I've auditioned. The amp presents a nice, wide sound stage.

One of the nice things about this amp is its current bandwidth. With the Dali's, I get a nice full sound at low background levels. I was never able to achieve this with my Nad C740. The Jolida does not have any tone controls and I don't miss them with this amp. At low volumes, I was always boosting the bass/treble a bit with the Nad.

Overall, this is an outstanding amp for the money. It's a keeper!

This Jolida FX10 amp is a good idea - get people interested in tubes at a significantly lower price than most other "entry level" vacuum tube-based amps. I won't comment on its sonic properties since others have already done that. I'll just say I like the way this amp sounds, too.

But this amp has a big problem: it runs WAY TOO HOT! The glass cover traps heat and it doesn't have nearly enough ventilation space from underneath to provide good airflow and cooling. Too much heat for any amp, but especially a tube amp, is a killer - you get failure due to shortened life for things like capacitors and power supplies. They just don't respond well to heat. I would recommend any potential purchaser remove the cover and find proper feet to rest it on. I'm using 1 inch sorbothane spacers. Make sure it's in an open area so that hot air can escape.

Because it runs so hot I've had it serviced twice within the past two-and-a-half years both times for the same problem - noisy sound on the right channel due to heat-caused oxidation of various internal connectors and tube pins. Plus a fried ribbon cable the 2nd time. Once the clean-up is done it goes back to sounding good. The second service was after I removed the cover and added the spacers.

I'm considering adding an external fan or putting a fan underneath but will this save the product from the scrap heap? Time will tell.

I'm guessing all this heat is due to its compact design. With chassis dimensions of only 8 x 7 x 5 inches the heat is easily absorbed and then transmitted down to the internal components. The number and size of the vent holes are just not enough. With an internal circuit board plus all the other components jammed into such a small space, air cannot circulate properly through the unit.

I'm glad I only paid $370 for my unit and not the standard $500-600.

Do not EVER buy anything from Jolida. Two capacitors went bad and they kept my amp for over TWO MONTHS and charged me almost $300 to fix it. NO APOLOGY whatsoever except to tell me their "systems weren't the best". $300 for two capacitors. Two months. No contact from them. EVER.

Their stuff is just rebranded Chinese equipment anyway.
