Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

British celebrity biographer Jackson (Paul Simon; Queen; Ewan McGregor) presents an enthusiastic sketch of one of New Jersey’s favorite sons, né John Francis Bongiovi, in this detailed but speculative volume. Jackson traces the rock star’s journey from his childhood in working class Sayreville through his early years in the music business as "a ‘nobody’ who had to make his demos during the odd hours of the early morning when no one else required the facilities," to the pre-record label, pre-name change recording of his first hit "Runaway," and then through his multi-platinum albums, his legendary lengthy marriage, his bouts with burnout and professional failure, his excursions into acting and his return to the top of the music charts. This isn’t a complete biography, but ardent Bon Jovi fans who aren’t concerned with less than perfect grammatical styling, overly dramatic passages and the odd intrusion of British-isms (such as "mum" for "mother") should appreciate this satisfying addition to the singer’s memorabilia.

From Booklist

Jackson's look at "multi-platinum American supergroup Bon Jovi" focuses on "the linchpin and relentless driving force of this phenomenally popular rock outfit," Jon Bon Jovi. Not only endowed with "flawless features," JBJ also enjoys "magnetic stage presence and star quality . . . matched by boundless energy and fierce commitment." Whew! And he's an occasional TV star (on Allie McBeal and other series), too. This volume will do no one, especially Bon Jovi, any harm, and it just may reveal all one needs to know about the man and the band. Mike Tribby

1.0 out of 5 stars Jon Bon Jovi, March 2, 2004
By Lisa Gould (Thornton, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jon Bon Jovi (Hardcover)
This book is a completely unauthorized biography, and Bon Jovi has absolutely no connection with this book. They even denounced the book as rubbish on their website! If you are a true Bon Jovi fan you know that books like these are not the real story behind the band. If you really want actual information about Bon Jovi then go to www.bonjovi.com or www.backstagewithjbj.com to learn more. Bon Jovi is a great band with a wonderful story to tell but don't believe everything you read unless it is endorsed by the band.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new/wrong, June 26, 2005
As an old Bon Jovi fan I was completely dissapointed by this book. It is absolutely clear that the content is based just on the info gathered from media and the author haven't even met the band members or other people mentioned in the book. Some of the facts and opinions in the book are very doubtful. I think any Bon Jovi fan could write a better 'biography'. Dont waste money on this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Bon Jovi s' life, July 6, 2004
By Nadine (Brussels Belgium Europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jon Bon Jovi (Hardcover)
I read this book because I like Bon Jovi and his band. I "follow" the band since 1983, when I meet them into a local radio station around New-York. I read a lot of books concerning Bon Jovi, but this one is very clear. You can follow the life of the Bon Jovi 's band whithout difficulties. There are a lot of chapters, very clear. It's simple and very easy, very clear to read. One negative point it's maybye there are not much pictures into the book. I think that the band could have more than 4 pages of pictures but for the rest, it's a great book. If you are a real Bon Jovi s'fan, read it.
