Scholarly, Pertinent.,
By
This review is from: Jon Courson's Application Commentary: New Testament (Hardcover)
Jon Courson combines scholarly analysis with a broad and deep knowledge of Old Testament Types and Symbolism to breathe a new vitality into the New Testament Good News. The common theme is the Gospel of Grace, whereby Christians respond to Jesus' sacrificial love on the cross by inviting Him into their hearts and letting Him finish the work by changing them from the inside out. His self-deprecating and personal style is not only humorous and readable but also timely and pertinent to the struggles we face in our lives. I highly recommend this commentary for those Christians who are striving for maturity in their Christian walk.

I just love this book. I am thinking about buying a ton of them for Christmas gifts. This book is a great commentary on the New Testament. It has taught me so much, sometimes by pointing out the meanings of the original Greek words, and other time by just bringing things into focus. I am not a long time student of the Bible and reading the Bible alone I have often felt confused or lost. John Courson has really enabled me to focus and thoughtfully consider it as I read. Thank you, John Courson. You have helped make my quiet time a joy rather than a chore!

Awesome God Given Blessing,

I was a church pew baby - born in one and remained throughout much of my life. Nothing and no one has opened my eyes to the truths in the Word like Pastor Jon Courson has done in this commentary. He speaks truths in todays language meeting todays needs. I have bought this commentary for anyone who will take one (and even some who would'nt). I have watched lives transformed from fence walkers to true followers of Jesus through the diligent reading of this commentary. The scripture is in King James (my favorite) - and the commentary on it makes you not even realize you are reading King James. For me, it is less of a commentary that I would go to to look for understanding of specific verses - as it is a read through Bible. Many times I have read the Bible with little understanding. This commentary has opened my eyes, heart and soul through Jon's obvious God given gift used for HIS GLORY - to bring a greater awareness of GOD's Word to my life. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. I do not have alot of money - but when I find someone whom I can share this with - I find the money in the budget for another one.

Best KJV Commentary,

This review is from: Jon Courson's Application Commentary: New Testament (Hardcover)
This is the best written KJV commentary on the market. He has written this in very simple readable, but interesting formate. No need to turn to another version of the Bible stick with KJV and go with this commentary.

This review is from: Jon Courson's Application Commentary: New Testament (Hardcover)
I bought this commentary as a result of my CC pastor recommending it as a place to find 'nuggets' of blessing. This is a fine one-volume commentary on the New Testament for the beginning Bible student as well as those looking for some added insights on certain passages.
This is an 'application' commentary, as the name implies, and not an in-depth technical word by word or verse by verse commentary. It is designed to be read at a more devotional level for those interesting in applying the verses to their daily lives. Jon does not cover each verse in detail and sometimes lumps a few verses together and provides a brief synopsis. This would be my only real complaint. Not all of the 'problem' verses are addressed. I was kind of looking for a bit more, hence the 3- star rating. But if you are new to studying the New Testament, I would recommend this as a fine compliment to another one-volume commentary, The Believer's Bible Commentary by William MacDonald. With these two hand-in-hand, I believe you'll get a pretty accurate understanding of the verse, added insight and be edified at the same time. Recommended to those looking to 'flesh-out' other commentaries they may have.

This reads so much like Jon Courson teaches from the pulpit...you can almost hear him talk as you read. Jon is very, very insightful in helping you understand the Bible. It is written as he teaches - verse by verse - but he also puts topical explanations in there as well. This book is an excellent read all by itself or as a reference to your own study when the Spirit guides you to dig deeper. The scriptures are in old King James but the explanations are in current American English. :D Blessings!

This commentary by Jon Courson is marvelous! His knowledge of Hebrew and Greek brings the scriptures to life as he comments after each verse. He tells of the situations and customs of that time so that the reader experiences the true meaning of the verses. He brings modern day language into the mix so that we might thoroughly understand what's happening in the verses,by correlation. In one account he explains that the moisture that shrouds a city in fog can be condensed into a half cup of water! He compares this to how our words can be few but caustic and spread into the lives of others to do great damage and harm. He also uses comparisons by commenting on the Stealth Bomber, etc. Excellent book. I'd never read the bible again without this type of knowledge! Well worth buying!

I enjoy listening to Pastor Jon Courson on the radio, so when I discovered he had an O.T. and N.T. commentary I just had to purchase it. Pastor Jon has an excellent way of sharing with you his perspective, and also has study cases that really dig into the meaning of so many lesson's our Lord is telling us. I enjoy this book, and it's just as if you have your own pastor next to you during your studies. It's a must have.

Wow! If you can only get one commentary on the New Testament I highly recommend this one! He also has two volumes dealing with the Old Testament, which are brilliant as well.
