I think that Jon, Flora, and the Odd-Eyed Cat was an excellent book, but it wasn't quite my favorite. It seemed very real, as if it could really happen. I could really get into the book: it was as if I was Jon, This book was really exciting because anything was possible. It was intriguing, mysterious, and extremely interesting. Jon, Flora and the Odd-Eyed Cat is a pretty good book. I would give it three and half stars. I really like the characters in the book. Flora is a very imaginative character and she trust Jon. Jon is recovering from rheumatic fever and has just moved. Jon is daring, trusting, and also careful. Katmandu is Flora's cat and was the first to trust Jon. This is a good...

I thought this book was Great! My favorite part was when Jon kept on helping Flora. That was a nice thing to do because he really didn't want to do it. I thought it was a nice ceremony. I would give this book a five star because it was Great! Katmandu was my favorite character. He was my favorite because he has one amber eye and one blue eye. I hope that many people will read this book and love it as much as I did. Have a Great time reading it.

A Kid's Review
The book Jon, Flora, and the Odd-Eyed Cat was a fantastic book to read. The book is now one of my favorite books to read. The beginning two chapters were not exciting, and then things started to pick up in the rest of the chapters. My favorite character was Flora because even though she is only around 10 years old she has a mind of her own. Sometimes she even tells Jon what to do. I like that she has a strong opinion. I think that Flora is a dare devil most of the time because she is not afraid to do something that is wrong. Most of the time she doesn't even get in trouble. The total effect on a reader was strong but that is my opinion. I know for a fact that the book had a strong effect on me because I enjoyed reading the book. When I read a few chapters I didn't want to put the book down and stop reading it because it was so good. Every time I finished a chapter I wanted to read ahead and find out what happens next. Sometimes it was just too tempting that I have to read on to the next chapter to find out what happened. The book is so good and exciting that I recommend it to readers who enjoy reading realistic fiction and a little bit of fantasy mixed together.

4.0 out of 5 stars An 11 year old reader, November 23, 2001
A Kid's Review
The book Jon, Flora and the Odd-Eyed Cat was full of action. I rate this book four stars. At the beginning of the book was kind of boring. At the end of the book was very unpredictable. I would have never thought that Flora pretending that she was a druid in her mind, or as Aunt Evangeline quoted, "Flora lives in her mind because she has nothing to live for." I liked Flora because she had a supernatural look to her and because she was mysterious in a way because she could only go outside to visit Jon at night. I liked this book a lot and I think you will too, if you read this great book.

Jon, Flora, and the Odd-Eyed Cat was a great book! I give it 5 stars! My favorite part of the book was when they were doing the ceremony with the stones and cement. My favorite character is Flora because she has a lot of good ideas, and shes smart. I also like how the book has a lot of good details so you can picture what it may look like. The end I didn't really like because it was sad, but the rest of the book was great. I really liked the book so I hope you like it to!

Jon, Flora, and the Odd-Eyed Cat was a very good book! On a rate from 1-5 (5 meaning I loved it), I gave it a 4. I liked how things were always secretive between Jon and Flora and how he snuck out of the house almost every night. Jon was a very nice boy. He had just moved south and is very sick in the book. He didn't have many friends since he moved. A girl named Flora befriends him. She always tells him what to do though. He wants her to like him even if it wasn't smart. Once they went to get stone for Flora's ceremony. It turned out the stones were from the graveyard! Jon was so surprised! This was great! If you like reading interesting books, read this one.

A Kid's Review
Jon, Flora and the Odd-Eyed Cat was a very good book. It was so interesting about all of the Druid rituals. The best scene was at the end when Aunt Evangeline, Flora, Kat, and Jon had the Summer Solstice ceremony. Another great scene was when Jon passes out and finds himself in a room in a hospital. It creates an essence of pure eagerness to find out what is to happen to Jon next! If I were to rate this book, it would definitely get 5 stars. I really thought that this book was worth reading and you learn that pretending can help you go through the difficult times in your life.

A Kid's Review
I think that Jon, Flora, and the Odd-Eyed Cat was an excellent book, but it wasn't quite my favorite. It seemed very real, as if it could really happen. I could really get into the book: it was as if I was Jon. This book was really exciting because anything was possible. It was intriguing, mysterious, and extremely interesting. The main character was Jon. He was very sick and angry because his family had just moved from Illinois. He is in the tenth grade and his best friend was named Eddie. He has a mom, a dad, and two sisters named Teresa and Colleen. The story took place in South Carolina, in the present. Jon, Flora and the Odd-Eyed Cat really had "total effect on the reader." The way that the author (Stella Pevsner) described everything down to the last details, I could practically see and hear Kat (Flora's cat) scratching at the window and smell the flowers around his neck. This book really influences the reades and widens their appreciation for fantasy and magic. In Jon, Flora, and the Odd-Eyed Cat, Jon battles with rheumatic fever. His way of escaping the fever is his nightly visits with Flora and Kat. To his mysterious friends, with whom he has an unusual bond, he ignores and pretends not to have rhematic fever. Over time, the illness he secretly conceals and fights with becomes worse than ever, especially in his and Flora's time of need. Eventually he recovers (or conquers) the fever that he battles with. It is really an awesome story that everyone should read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Ever!, August 9, 2000

This review is from: Jon Flora and the Odd Eyed Cat (Paperback)
This book is still the best book I've ever read! It's so great. The beginning is OK, but the rest of the book is great. Every- thing seems to connect at the end, which is good, the I really loved the parts when Jon goes help Flora at night with her Druid rituals. I never knew about Druids until then, and now I'm sooooo interested in them! This book is great for young adults.
