The Classical Vision Runs Deep,
This review is from: Jon Lord: Durham Concerto (Audio CD)
The work composed by Jon Lord was commissioned by Durham University as part of its 175th anniversary celebration.
This performance with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra features Lord as a soloist on the Hammond organ. Other soloists are Matthew Barley (cello), Ruth Palmer (violin) and Kathryn Tickell (Northumbrian pipes). The classical music is highly "accessible" and would be a nice primer to fans who only know Lord for Deep Purple, though he has had classical aspirations that ran parallel to his rock material since the late 1960s.
