About the Author

Priscilla Shirer is a BIBLE teacher. Through the expository teaching of the Word of God to women, her desires to see women not only know the uncompromising truths of Scripture intellectually but experience them practically by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Priscilla is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, with a Master's degree in Biblical Studies. She has been a conference speaker for major corporations, organizations, and Christian audiences across the United States and the world.

In 1993, Priscilla's speaking ministry began while she was in college. Although her plan was to receive her degree in radio and television and go on to be a television news anchor, God had other plans. While interning at a Christian radio station in Houston, she began to receive invitations to do Bible studies at small women's events in the area. As an 18 year old freshman, she went to these events and shared the simple truths of Scripture that she was studying in her own personal time with the Lord.

In 1997, while in seminary, she received a request to facilitate a Bible study at Ziglar Training Systems in Dallas, Texas. It was that day that she met international motivational speaker Zig Ziglar, who became not only her friend but also her mentor. She was asked to come on board as one of the company's motivational speakers and corporate trainers. In this capacity, she has provided training and inspiration to hundreds of companies and their employees across the country and abroad. Still, her desire was simply to teach the Word of God to women.

Priscilla is now in full-time ministry to women across the country and the world. She is the author of A Jewel In His Crown, A Jewel in His Crown, A Jewel in His Crown Journal, And We Are Changed: Transforming Encounters with God, He Speaks To Me, and Discerning the Voice of God. (Moody Press).

The Lord has incorporated her love for television into her ministry by allowing her to author five video driven Bible studies with Lifeway Christian Resources. They are He Speaks to Me: Preparing to Hear From God, Discerning the Voice of God: How To Know When God Speaks, Can We Talk: Soul Stirring Conversations with God, Anointed, Transformed & Redeemed: A study of David and ONE in a Million: Journey to your Promise Land.

Priscilla is married to her best friend, Jerry, and the couple have three sons: Jackson, Jerry Jr. and Jude. They live in Dallas, Texas.

Jerry and Priscilla have founded Going Beyond Ministries through which the message of God's desire for a passionate love relationship with His children is boldly proclaimed. Going Beyond Events...A Spiritual Reawakening for women occur across the country several times a year.

The book is very well written, as all her books are, and 212 pages, is a quick read but packs a punch!

The title of this book caught my attention, but the content of the book kept my attention. It is a short study (7 weeks) and is easy to read. Each week has 5 days worth of reading - not too long, and certainly not too short. I found that each day had the right portion that got my thoughts centered on what God may be doing - or want to do in my circumstances. It has some solid, hearty concepts that is needed for both men and women, young or old Christians. For me, doing this study was the jump start I needed to have in order to gain the right perspective on the interruptions of life I have been experiencing. The accompanying video series is excellent. I highly recommend this study.

This was my second Priscilla Shirer Bible study and it was amazing! I had never done an in-depth study on Jonah so I was interested to see how she would draw out an entire study on Jonah. It's not just a story about a man and a big fish! She brought out so many concepts that I could easily see in my own life. Incredible study that I highly recommend to anyone wanting a good study for a group or individual.

Discovered this book is supposed to have a dvd to go along with it, but you don't HAVE to have it. I think having it would really be a lot better though, in able to get more out of the study, as Priscilla is a great speaker and teacher. I was dissappointed that it doesn't say that ahead of time to let you know.
The study is a tough one! The questions really probe you, and sometimes you just don't even know how to answer them---that is why I think the dvd would be good to have, as it would give you more insight. That being said, I HAVE gotten things out of the study, and it does make one think and move forward into what God is speaking to them on and wanting them to do in what they were created specifically for.
I think this book is for the more mature Christian, as perhaps someone new in their walk might get frustrated a bit with the questions??? Every single person in our group said it was really hard!

I love doing bible studies, so I was thrilled to find one on Jonah. This was not the best study, though. I so wish she would have gone deeper into the bible, the original wordings and underlying meanings. I haven't really learned a lot. The study is mostly "personal application" so there is a lot of talk about "how is God interrupting your life right now" and "where have you run in the wrong direction". Also, it feels very watered down for me -- like she's trying to keep short little snippets of lessons rather than actually digging into the meat of the material. I'm just about finished, and I sort of wish I would have selected a different study or different author.

In the last two years that I have been blogging and doing book reviews, I have been introduced to some amazing books and authors. But one author has impacted me in a way that I never expected. Last year I had the privilege to study through One In A Million with my church's ladies Bible Study. It came at the perfect time, as I was experiencing some serious wilderness situations in my life. Through her study and God working in my life and heart i have come to realize the value in experiencing wilderness experiences. Some experiences I could control, others not so much.

Now, Shirer has come out with a book entitled Life Interruptions: Navigating the Unexpected and it examines the life of Jonah and how even when he did not want to obey God and do His will, God wanted him and sent him interruptions to show that and bring him back.

The book is very well written, as all her books are, and 212 pages, is a quick read but packs a punch! A lot of learning is too be had from this book and I will definitely be going through it again in the future. But will take my time and really dig deep through it. However, I wanted to share just a few nuggets I pulled from Life Interrupted:

- When God speaks, when He intervenes, when He permits a circumstance to rise up around you, it is your opportunity to write a story that people may still be talking about many years from now. Like those holy heroes of old from Scripture, your story of divine intervention - the one that brought you to your knees in frustration - could be the very thing that lifts others' eyebrows in wonder and amazement at your strength and tenacity, the one that cause them to see the sparkle of substance, significance, and impact in your life.

I joined a prayer group and the local Christian stores were sold out of this book. Went on Amazon and received this book in record time. Item arrived in great condition, in excellent time. The bible study is a good one...making one reflect a lot on your life and determining in what areas of your life you are a "Jonah", running away from God.

This is a study on how Jonah tried to run from what God told him to do. If your relationship with God is derailed, this book may help you get back on track. It is designed for group study where a DVD is shared weekly, which may enhance the study, but not necessary to complete it.
