4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, But Not Completely Singable, February 25, 2003

Big Idea's first full length movie gets a complete CD all to itself. 7 of the tracks are instrumentals from the movie's score, but the other 12 are songs from the movie.

My biggest complaint is that we get a few half songs. "Bald Bunny" and "Steak and Shrimp" are really more pointless then normal, even for Big Ideas. However, these are off-set by the songs recorded by regular Christian artists.

"Second Chances," straight from the movie and sung by Anointed, is a fun toe taping song. Chris Rice provides all 12 verses for "Billy Joe McGuffrey." Relient K does a wonderful cover of "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything." I'll admit, it too me a couple listens to fully appreciate it, but I love it. Probably my favorite is "In the Belly of the Whale" by Newsboys. It makes me laugh so much.

Of course, there are songs recorded by the "veggies" on here as well. The best song related to the movie is "Jonah was a Prophet." And if you're looking for this movie's version of a silly song, skip to "Credits Song." I was laughing so hard when I first heard it, I had to pull my car to the side of the road.

I'm not usually a fan of soundtrack albums, but I'm certainly glad I bought this one. The songs I've highlighted make it more then worth while.

5.0 out of 5 stars You know you're hooked when..., May 16, 2003

...when you let the kids listen while driving them to school, and then turning it up louder once they've left. "Pirates", "Billie Joe McGuffrey", and "The Credits Song" are great songs. While the movie score is missable, it doesn't detract from the rest of the album. Very catchy, but yet it doesn't get tiresome.

This album is the soundtrack to the first successful motion picture hit from Big Idea Productions, JONAH: A VEGGIETALES MOVIE. The Veggie Tales videos are great to watch whether you're a kid or an adult because they operate on so many different levels of humor and wit. Yet, I have to admit I was very excited when the first Veggie Tales album came out a few years ago because the songs in the stories are so memorable. I was just as excited when I recieved this soundtrack for Christmas.

Some of my favorite tracks on the album are:

"Steak and Shrimp"

"It Cannot Be"

"Jonah Was a Prophet"

"Billy Joe McGuffrey"

"Credits Song"

"Steak and Shrimp" really isn't a song, but is more of a ditty, but is hilarious. "It Cannot Be" is one of the more moving songs in the movie and reminds me of "Close Every Door" from JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. "Jonah Was a Prophet" is the big dance number that closes the movie, while "Billy Joe McGuffrey" contains all the verses to that catchy song sung by Chris Rice. Finally, "Credits Song" is just that, a song about the credits that really has nothing to do with the credits.

This album is a great item for any Veggie Tale fan, but is also an amazing piece of children's music and just a decent overall soundtrack.

4.0 out of 5 stars some great songs!, January 17, 2003

i can't write a whole review on this cd since i don't own it, however i do know alot of the songs and i bought the relient k single of the pirates who don't do anything! so i totally disagree with the person who wrote you won't like the rk version if you love the veggietales one. they both ROCK! and anything sung by newsboys would be worth it. so even tho not all the songs are sung by the "veggies" don't underestimate its great silliness!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Veggietales Soundtrack Hilarious, October 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Jonah: A Veggietales Movie (Audio CD)
The JONAH Soundtrack has a bunch of really funny songs to sing along to. Some of my personal favorites are Message from the Lord, Billy Joe McGuffrey, and Credits Song. Message From The Lord sung by Archibald Asparagus (a.k.a. Jonah)tells about Jonah reaching Ninevah and telling them about messages God has given him. In Billy Joe McGuffrey, Chris Rice tells us about a "really clumsy kid" who is always messing up his 1st day of 1st Grade, 2nd day of 2nd grade etc. And The Credits Song has the whole veggietales gang telling us how the song they are singing during the credits doesn't remotely pertain to the movie. Funny stuff. There is also a great musical score and my favorite score track is Opening Titles. This CD is filled with clean, fun-filled songs made just for the movie.

This soundtrack is So awesome...i Love it. Each and every song is unique in its own way and it's amusing lyrics are fun to listen and sing along to. All the songs that can be found on this soundtrack is catchy and amazing. Relient K and the Newsboys add their own touch with their fun songs of "The Pirates who Don't Do Anything" and "In the Belly of the Whale". So make sure you get this soundtrack! I guarantee you will enjoy it...if not fall in love with it

There are some very good song on this album. I liked "Message from the Lord", "Jonah Was a Prophet", "In the Belly of a Whale" and "Billy Joe McGuffrey."
There is also a rock-n-roll version of "The Pirates who Don't Do Anything" by Reliant K. If you love the Veggietale version, you will not care for their rendition.
Some of the songs are not sung by VeggieTales characters but by Newsboys, Chris Rice and Relient K.
It will be interesting to see how Big Idea fits them into the movie.

If you liked the movie you will love this CD. I bought it just for the Anointed song (Second Chances, the song inside the whale). But I found that the whole CD was great. As always with VeggieTales, the quality is very high (this is the movie whose budget supposedly bankrupted the company a few years ago). If you are a fan already, get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun AND Completely Singable..., February 1, 2008

We had this CD for years and listened to it over and over and over again! It got misplaced but with the release of the new Pirates Who Don't Do Anything movie, we were inspired to search for it. Unfortunatley we didn't find it but thanks to Amazon, it's still for sale. If you're looking for something silly and fun to sing with your kids go ahead and get this CD- ya'll won't be disappointed! By the way, if your kids are Relient K fans or Newsboys fans this CD offers two hits by both and all of my kids- 16, 11 and 5- love those songs as much as the others! It's great for in the car!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME MOVIE!!, January 27, 2007

As with many kids' films, I've watched this probably 30 times start to finish. They all get old after a while, but this film is so well-done that I find myself admiring the work even when I swear I'm going to shoot myself if I have to watch it again.

Veggie Tales is fantastic at making biblical stories easy to understand, and the animation and adaptation of the story makes it easy for children of all ages to relate to them.

The music on this soundtrack is phenomenal. After the first time I watched this, I bought the CD to play in the car so I could sing along with the movie more quickly!

This was an outstanding piece of work - I hope to see new Veggie Tales movies in the near future!
