4.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut!
I work in radio, and I actually met and interviewed the members of Jonah33 a couple years ago. We are not a Christian radio station, but they were in our local area and stopped by to promote a show they were doing that week. Vince, the lead singer, was very open about his past, how he overcame hardship and got his life back on track. Anyway, their debut has all the...

3.0 out of 5 stars If you want a Christian 6teen Stone era Bush, pick this up!!!!
Yeah this CD is very early Bush-like in nature. There is a little bit of Nickelback and Creed too in there for flavor. Whoever said that Vince sounds like Dave Grohl should go have his head checked.....IMMEDIATELY!!!! Anyway, I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. The songs start to sound alike after a while but definitely the best tracks are "Watching You Die" and "Faith...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut!, January 20, 2005

I work in radio, and I actually met and interviewed the members of Jonah33 a couple years ago. We are not a Christian radio station, but they were in our local area and stopped by to promote a show they were doing that week. Vince, the lead singer, was very open about his past, how he overcame hardship and got his life back on track. Anyway, their debut has all the makings of a good rock album with positive lyrics. If anything, they remind you, as a listener, that God loves you and wants you to include him in your life. Having talked to them in the past lets me enjoy the music a whole lot more. The only song that I really don't care for is "All That Matters", but it's still not a bad song. "The Difference", and "All For You" are my standout tracks. If you like 3 Doors Down, Creed, Alter Bridge, Collective Soul or Nickelback, give this a shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply awesome, March 28, 2004

This review is from: Jonah33 (Audio CD)
Let me tell you, I have never heard of this group until I went to the Christian bookstore. I got curious and I scanned the CD and listened to it. I was simply amazed. It's been a long time since I've heard a rock group like this. It brings me back to 1995-1999, when the REAL Christian Rock existed. This CD combines with a grunge and a modern rock feel. Great lyrics too.

1. Watching you die (10.0) = Great opening. Great punch to it.
2. Too Much of Me (9.5) = Love it.
3. All for You (9.0) = I like it. Not as much crunch as Watching you die and Too Much of Me.
4. Faith Like That (10.0) = I love how this song has strings in it, it just makes the song. Great lyrics.
5. Death and the Life (9.5) = Shortest song. True grunge sound in here.
6. Beautiful (10.5) = One of the best songs on here. Makes me very sad of how I can be in life.
7. God of My Life (9.0) = A hard rock worship song.
8. All That Matters (9.0) = Great kick too it.
9. Shine (8.5) = Too continues. Not much lyrics to it. Good message though.
10. The Difference (9.5) = Good song. Hard to understand what this song means though.
11. Working Man Hands (11.0) = I LOVE this song. One of the only songs in history that almost makes a tough person like me cry. This song is about witnessing for Jesus. Good stuff here.
11b. Who am I (10.0) = Good piano ballad.

Get this CD. Jonah33 WILL go far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow., November 18, 2005
This review is from: Jonah33 (Audio CD)
Jonah33 is simply an amazing band. They are more blunt than many Christian rock blands, which I feel is worthy of respect. Their lyrics are the most incredible I have heard. They go into territory where many other Christian bands fear to tread. Their first track, "Watching You Die," is about Christian apathy, and relates watching people physically die to watching them spiritually die, as many Christians do. The lyrics always match the music. I recommend this cd to anyone who wants to hear Christian Grundge with amazing lyrics. Their popularity, for some reason, is much less than it should be.

Jonah33 really knows what they are doing. They are probably the best christian post grunge band ever, and probably one of the best grunge bands overall(in my opinion). It's really too bad that they are so unknown.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loud Rock N Roll w/ Faith-centered lyrics, May 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Jonah33 (Audio CD)
A great blend of loud, grungy rock-n-roll tastefully blended with thoughtful & personal faith-centered lyrics. The lead vocalist, Vince Lichlyter, has an awesome gravelly baritone voice that fits this style hand-in-glove. This is rock and roll to rattle your windows with.

"Faith Like That" is far-and-away THE standout track on this disc, even though it's mellower than many of the songs surrounding it. This song, and the CD's closing songs, show that this band can also handle the softer tunes with talent and taste.

This whole CD is a fantastic first album, and reveals that Jonah33 has huge potential. I look forward to seeing them grow as songwriters and musicians in the future. For now though, buy this CD and set your volume to 11.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome if you like creed or bush, March 10, 2007

I got this cd after somebody brought it to my work and let me have a listen. I decided to get it. It reminds me a lot of both bush and creed somehow mixed with heavy christian lyrics.

Watching You Die gets peoples attention and holds it. It is a very preachy CD so people not into christian rock could get grumpy if you make them listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars One could almost confuse this with Foo Fighters, December 25, 2005
This review is from: Jonah33 (Audio CD)
Vocalist sounds almost exactly like Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters on most of the songs. The cd starts out with Watching You Die, a hard hitting grunge anthem. Tracks 2, 3, 8 are also kinda hard grunge rock songs. The rest of the cd is slower paced music but still very catchy. This is a christian rock group, and it definitely shows in the lyrics, but whether you like christian music or not you owe it to yourself to pick this hard/soft rock gem up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Evocative and arresting debut... ****1/2 stars, January 16, 2005

(REAL NAME)

The debut album from Jonah33 is simply arresting at times. While a few of the lyrics fall into conventional Christian parameters, the group does find a fair amount of poetry to wrap driving guitars around. Bands that this recalls include Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and rightly so... I wouldn't lump this material with 4th or 5th generation grunge, but would place it closer to the source.

"Faith Like That" gripped me from the first listen. Beautifully orchestrated, it combines the elements of dynamic percussion, sweeping strings, driving guitar and visceral vocals and a heart-felt plea for something better.

The other tracks are also worth the purchase, ranging from good to great.

Honestly, the guitar work alone is worth the buy.
