Elvis, the Beatles—and now the Jonas Brothers? Given the enormous popularity of this trio, the need for a review is debatable, as libraries will likely need multiple copies on hand to meet demand. This chord-by-chord chronicle begins with their lives as child performers leading up to the Disney record deal that made them stars and headlining the current pop-music scene. For a light celebrity bio, this is unusually well designed, which puts it near the top of books about the ubiquitous rockers. Jam-packed with color photos, the text reveals personal tidbits about girlfriends, purity rings, “Bonus Jonas” (the fourth brother), Nick’s diabetes, Kevin as guitar hero, and Joe as a joker. Concluding with a news diary that is a month-by-month look at the band’s first four years, ending with December 2008, this is the next best thing to a backstage pass. Grades 5-8. --Julie Cummins
