I have been mesmerized by the beauty, clarity and perfection of Jonatha Brooke's voice for many years. "Live" is like having a command performance in your living room. The quality of the recording is excellent. Great performances by her band--especially like the sound of the fretless bass (Marcus Miller) on "Because I Told You So". Why Jonatha isn't as well known as Jewel or Sarah McLachlan is beyond me.

It's hard to put into words how I feel about this CD. The contents are not simply music and lyrics, but a skillfully crafted collection of years of emotions that even rival the song-writing finesse of Neil Finn. Jonatha IS a storyteller, painting an incredible portrait of some of the sweetest sounds you will ever hear. "Is This All" is simply stunning. You experience for a few minutes the pain that is felt from a relationship gone wrong. "Because I Told You So" is another classic. The soaring harmonies during the bridge still send shivers up my spine. Incredibly moving. Amazing. Beautiful.

Jonatha possess the gift of an angelic voice, an accomplished guitarist, and an inspiring composer. She's a true artist.

"Jonatha Brooke Live" is one of my top 10 favorites. It's a must for your CD collection.

This is a work of art from a true artist in the purest sense! Jonatha's music has that special ability to evoke an emotional response from her audience. This is that special quality that can only come from listening to truly superb music! The range of vocal colors that Jonatha uses to 'paint' her audio pictures coupled with sheer poetry for lyrics makes her live performances even more dynamic than her studio work. Even though the songs are the same, they are enjoyable on a whole new level. She is truly a Terrifc Talent!

Jonatha Brooke is a folk-rock singer-songwriter from the Boston area who has needs just too many hyphens to express her talent. Having seen Jonatha live on three previous occaisons, I was very excited to see her release a Live album. Ultimately the album is a little disapointing for the simple reason that she is just SO GOOD when she performs live, that it is very difficult to capture the energy that exists at her shows. And I was a little disapointed at her selection of songs on this album which tends to highlight more of her folky songs instead of her rock songs. Both of her "styles" are great, but I would prefer the mix rather than the emphasis on one particular style. No "Crumbs" and no "Charming" and no "Secrets and Lies"?

For the die-hard Jonatha Brooke fans, this is a good CD to get to listen to on the drive to her shows. For the people who want an intro to her music, this is a great starting album. Check out her other two solo albums, and the two she did with Jennifer Kimball as The Story and you'll get about 30 more songs which are just fantastic. Jonatha Brooke is so much fun to listen to, I could listen to her jingle for Goodyear tires for hours!

Jonatha kicks serious ass!! she is one of my favorite solo artists, she and others have changed the way I approached. I love how passionate and truthful she is. It's proven on this cd.

Her music has kind of dwindled lately, but I hope she gets back on track.

I love every second of this album more than even her great studio albums. Jonatha live is intimate and warm bringing even more feeling and heart to her songs. This was the first album I bought of her's and have since bought the rest but keep coming back to this one. If you are a fan of acoustic rock/folk/pop with good lyrics this is the album you need to buy.

Had the great fortune to hear and see Jonatha in a small club in Rochester NY. Although it was just her and her guitars, it was a memorable performance. Her presence is what gets missed on her studio albums. Some of it comes through on this album. But to see her perform songs from her days with The Story with as much passion and grace as new songs, yet unreleased, is to understand that she truly lives her music (At one point during the show she casually remarked, "Sometimes we call the album "live."- short "i"). If she ever comes within 100 miles of your home town, it's well worth the drive.

Jonatha is just an amazing talent I wish I'd heard of sooner. As it stands she's been in my CD changer for only a year, but I love everything she does. Her newest album "Steady Pull" is all her, she's found her groove. Live is really my favorite album of hers, but I can't go on a trip and just take one. They both have to come with me.
Annie is such a touching song. Her new album just doesn't have any of her older style ballads on it that I love so much. I love the new techno melodies she's exploring tho.
LIVE is just one of her must have albums. I also recommend seeing her in concert. You'll never forget it!

I saw Jonatha on a crappy comcast channel that barely came in one night, and her look was adorable but her sound was just perfect. to me it sounded like a more child-voiced sarah mclachlan, but different enough to keep her seperate from being a copy. This album is my most favorite (except for "always", which blahs me until the last 30 seconds of the song) I can't find a studio album that I like enough of hers to equal the calibur of her live music. her voice is crisp, the songs are catchy, and the guitar work is complicated enough not to be easily transcribed. WELL DONE missy! I only wish that she'd put out another live album instead of muddling the rest with weird riffs and just plain noise. If you're confused and stuck on which of hers to get, make it this one and it may be your biggest favorite too!

Over the course of her career, Brooke has had some uneven and stylistically scattered work. This CD pulls the best of her songs together and better yet, it shows that she can actually perform them live, unlike many of today's artists. If you own any of her studio albums, I think you'll find these versions preferable to the studio versions. The production is superb for a live album. Put on the headphones and you're standing on stage with her. Give it a listen, folks, because they don't come much better than this. A must-have CD.
