the book is in excellent condition.
the quality is fine.
the print is ok.
and the illustrations are excellent.

the only thing that makes me give tis book 4 stars and not 5 is that the print of some photographs exits the size of one page and is printed in tow pages making the picture look distorted.this is not a book fail but is something that some publishers for some unknown reason chose to do...witch i don't understand and i don't like it at all.

After viewing "Jones Beach" many times, I believe Joseph Szabo is Long Island's best black and white photographer.
Seldom in photographic journalism has anyone depicted the spontaneity of humanity enjoying a day at the beach as well as Mr. Szabo. For example, the extreme closeup of a perspiring woman, drenched in sun lotion, is so vivid you can almost smell it. The sensual photographs of boys and girls striving to attract one another, showing their joy of being together and at the same time their loneliness, awakened by own memories of days at Jones Beach. A double page photograph of the mass of humanity stretched out on beach chairs and splashing in the breaking waves, is also outstanding.
Other great photographers like Weegee have photographed the beach, but no one has concentrated more on the people who populate that beach than Joseph Szabo.

This book is a sheer delight. The photographs bring to vivid life the joy, exuberance and liveliness of a day at Jones Beach. From the surging waves to the panoramic views of happy beachgoers to the many images of young people enjoying the uninhibited pleasures of summer, Szabo creates the essence of a Jones Beach experience. You can almost smell the salt air and feel the spray on your face, as you leaf through the pages and share the excitement of his subjects. "Jones Beach" brought back many happy memories of my own, and I will revisit its pages many, many times in the future.

I was disappointed in this book. I did not realize this book was going to be mostly a collection of photos of the bodies of sexy young people romping and/or making out on the beach. I would MUCH rather have seen photos of Jones Beach itself and the many buildings and surrounding areas. I donated my copy of this book to a thrift shop.

A beautiful photography book with full-page black and white illustrations. It conveys the spirit of sun worshipers unselfconsciously bathing, playing, laughing, and having a good day at the beach. Szabo's book epitomizes the feeling of drowsy, languid days spent in the sun thinking the summer will never end...But make no mistake, Szabo's photographs are more than pretty - they convey humor, sweetness, and the range of emotions shown by the people on the beach...This book should be treasured by personal collectors and libraries alike.
